Could we land 2 of Ahmad Bradshaw , Michael Bush, Deangelo Williams, Cedric Benson and a Marion Barber. Jerome Harrison, or Leron Mcclain , and a later pick like Alan Bradford, Demarco Murray, or Daniel Thomas. or Doug Martin rebuild our running game?
if we could get a couple of these Volek and Ryan Kalil our offense would see great improvement
In general, teams don't like to spend free agent dollars on RBs near 30 years old and/or with a lot of mileage on them. For the most part, a RBs career is over at 30.
Williams, at 28, and coming off a foot injury that cost him 10 games looks like a really bad investment.
Barber, also 28, who plays with a really hard hitting style, coming off a year when he averaged 3.3 yards per carry, also looks like a really bad investment.
Benson is 28, and has rushed for over 4700 yards. He's really only had one really effective season. He ran for 1000 yards in 2010, but at just 3.5 yards per carry. Doesn't look like agood investment, either.
McClain is 26, but has just 265 yards rushing the last two seasons combined, and has only averaged 3.8 yards per carry for his career. And at 260 lbs, he does nothing to address our need for speed. Another bad investment.
Harrison is 28 and could probably be had at a reasonable price. He doesn't have much mileage, but hasn't really proven himself, either. He's an option to be part of the new backfield.
Bradshaw, at age 25, coming off a breakout year, is likely to have pretty high contract demands. I like him, but will Parcells' disciples want to hand over that kind of cash to a 198 lb RB? And depending on the new CBA, Bradshaw may not even be a free agent.
Bush is 27, and looks like a back on the rise, a potential breakout candidate. But, he had a devastating leg injury that cost him two football seasons, and he has a steel rod in his leg. And like Bradshaw, he may not be a free agent, depending on what happens with the CBA.
It's not likely that Bradshaw and Bush will actually be unrestricted free agents. Both have just 4 years service time, and any new CBA would likely make them restricted free agents, at best.
