After persistent prodding from Miami Herald reporter Jeff Darlington, the Dolphins admitted to setting up and canceling a meeting with former Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini.
Darlington wrote that team owner Stephen Ross scheduled the meeting for Friday, citing a source independent of the team. The Dolphins insists the meeting was to pick Mangini’s brain in a consulting role, not to fill their coaching vacancy.
The Dolphins admitted to setting up and canceling a meeting to consult with former Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini.
His “knowledge” of the AFC East was listed as an asset to the team. The meeting was canceled Friday, according to The Herald.
After confirming the meeting, the Dolphins informed The Herald that general manager Jeff Ireland and possibly Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano were set to join the conversations.
The team told The Miami Herald they wanted to speak with Mangini about a “vision” talked over by Sparano and Ireland in a previous discussion with Ross.
Mangini was fired by the Browns earlier this week after two seasons during which he went 10-22.
