I think it's jumping the gun a bit to assume he can jump right in as QB coach. Even Harbaugh started as an assistant/consultant/college scout while still an active NFL QB.

He then spent a year as an assistant before getting named as the QB coach.

Besides if he was such a great player/coach....how bad would Henne have been w/o him around?

Even other former players go through some sort of internship....Mike Singletary, Ron Rivera etc. Even Jack Del Rio started as a strength and conditioning coach for two years before moving on to LB coach.
