Mike Nolan should not dictate the direction of the franchise.

Now, I don't mean to suggest that Nolan is behind the scenes manipulating everything. Instead, I simply mean that we should not shy away from particular coaches for the fear of losing Nolan.
I was tremendously excited the day he became our DC, and in only one year he tremendously improved a relatively "no-name" defense into nothing short of dominant. Had Sean Smith come down with a few more picks, and had the offense been able to actually remain on the field, our season would not be over yet, all thanks to the work that Mike Nolan put in.
However, we should not settle for a lesser head coach simply to retain our defensive coordinator. A guy like Cowher brings with him a very similar, attacking philosophy on defense, and the transition from Nolan to Cowher's staff would not be a difficult one. It is essential that we build from the top down. As such, head coach needs to be the most pressing off-the-field issue. If that means we lose Nolan, then that will be dissapointing, but if its necessary to land Cowher, then it needs to be done.
With Cowher, we bring in a guy who combines philosophy and success, and I can't recall a player who did not love playing for The Chin.
i agree, if it means getting cowher, see ya nolan. and espcially ireland, who I have no idea why he's even still here, let alone acting as a potential impediment to getting a top HC
Screw Cohwer, he has a problem with Nolan? Arrogant prick if that's the attitude that he has, then I don't want the guy.
He is being brought in to coach a team. Nolan is here to coach the defense, Cowher can bring in his own OC, and is there a reason why he turn's his nose up to two professional's in Ireland, and Nolan?
Like there not good enough for him, f.ck you Cowher like your god.
keep in mind that all is in process is about negotiations.
1. What you hear in the press may not be the real issues holding back acceptance by Cowher, Gruden, others
2. Once a decision is made for HC, and for that matter GM the pieces will fall in place
3. My read is that Ross likes Ireland, and is using him for football insight.
- Ireland brought in Nolan, thus a try to keep what is good makes sense.
- Who knows if its money or control that is so important to Cowher.
IMO Parcells should dictate the power.
I don't think a coach such as Cowher should have that much power.
I don't think an owner such as Ross who doesn't have a ton of football knowledge should dictate the power.
A good GM controlling things seems to be the best method in the nfl IMO.
I do like that question because it has been the problem in Miami Who dictates the power?

Nolan left Denver b/c he didn't want McDaniel messing with his defense. Cowher is a Defensive coach. Don't you think he's going to want a lot of say in what happens on defense?
Both know that they won't be able to exist together so one has to go. I'm not against Nolan. I think he's a great DC. But I think Cowher would do more for the team.
The issue is not necessarily that Bill Cowher dislikes Mike Nolan.
In any corporate transition, especially at the very top, it is always quite common for the newly appointed "boss" to bring in his own people. This is done for numerous reasons, none of which have anything to do with not liking someone.
