1. No matter what happens he will be due is 2011 Salary. And without certainty of a 2011 Season why even attempt to change coaches? Or pay two coaches at one time.
2.The Offense has struggled this season, but with a good QB Sparano has shown he can win. With Pennington at the helm we won the AFC East and had a top rated offense.
3. He has shown he can fix problems. We have gone from 1-15 to a respectable football team. We had an awful defense in '09 only to come back and have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Yes we hired Mike Nolan, but it couldn't have been done without a good crop of young talent.
The one major thing that scares me about Sparano staying is that he completely screws the 2011 Draft just so he can save his job (i.e. trade our draft pick for an unproven QB such as Kolb)

if he comes back we are screwed. he will draft to save his own ass, meaning no QB early and any QB will be a retread, no top coordinator will come here since he's a lame duck. this will be just where we were the year wanny was kept on and speilman was promoted to GM---which was the lowest point in franchise history and gave us aj feely, lamar gordon, wally ogunleye for marty booker, etc
at this point i think we have no choice but to change coaches

This is not true. The 2008 team ranked 21st in points scored, and that was with Pennington at the helm. And the 2008 team featured a decent offensive line, and a very producitve running game. And Sparano is an offensive line coach, and yet, udner his watch, the offensive line and the running game have regressed each year.
In 2009, we ranked 15th in points scored, with Chad Henne at the helm for 13 games. And this regime went out and re-tooled the o-line again, gave up 2 draft picks and $50M for Brandon Marshall, and did nothing to address the aging running back tandem, or address the 2nd TE. And the offense plummeted to 30th in points scored.
So, in his 3 years, his offenses have ranked 21st, 15th, and 30th in points scored. And offense is supposed to be his strong suit. And to suggest that we had a good offense with Pennington is just wrong. Just to rank 21st, we benefitted greatly from the surpise of the wildcat, and from the incredibly weak schedule we played that year.

Your right. I was looking at the wrong stats.

Not true. We ranked 21st in points scored in 2008. You can check the facts.
And you know why we ranked 21st in points scored? If you'll remember, Tony Sparano would lament the lack of "chunk" plays. It seemed every TD drive we had was a 16 play, 75 yard drive. And it's impossible to score a lot of points when you can't ever get easy scores. And Sparano lamented the same thing again in year 2. And in year 3, you heard Dan Henning say the same thing. We have lacked speed and explosive players for 3 years now. And nothing was done to address the issue. Instead, they let the running backs get older, and they drafted an extremely slow WR in Patrick Turner (4.7), a WR with below average speed in Hartline (4.55), and gave $50M to another slow WR in Marshall (4.6) who has averaged just 12 yards per catch for his career. We have lacked explosive plays for 3 years. And the bottom line is that they have gone backwards in this regard, instead of improving it.
No speed is not everything, however when you have an abundance of speed instead of a single player...it becomes a real weapon. Big powerful players have their places too, as do shifty quick guys, but there must be two or three players that are flat out fast.
It's impossible to defend a "quality" TE, RB and WR's who are fast especially when you have a couple of other guys like Marshall (big, strong, great leaper) and Bess (shifty, quick and great hands) adding other demesions of thier own.

I'll cross my fingers, but I don't think we will have such luck.
Sparano does not know how to properly motivate MEN. He treats these guys like highschoolers with the "Feed the Wolf" and stuff like that. He was a win away from "hip, hip, hooray" till Zorn did it before him. The years Marino went 8-8, at least the games were entertaining. I worry about Cowher having the same conservative approach. I really hope they make a push for Harbaugh.
Sparano needs to sit down with Pat Riley and learn how to motivate professional athletes. Riley is, arguably, the best at doing that. The sport doesn't matter.
JasonLaCanfora twitter Dolphins have had contact with Jim Harbaugh, who was in Florida last week for Orange Bowl. Continue to hear this could happen. More ahead
I think Ross is waiting to see what Harbaugh's gonna do, if he cant get him then he'll keep Sparano
Harbaugh is a real hit or miss prospect. The guy totally turned Stanford into a national powerhouse but yet I can really see him turning out to be "Nick Saban 2.0" with him eventually going to Michigan

Totally disagree, the Michigan job's his now if he wants it, why would he pass now to leave later?

Just look at our records when he was our coach. In both seasons we started terrible and ended strong. He was a TERRIBLE practice coach. That's why we were unprepared coming out of TC on both seasons. He also wasn't very good during the game. Remember the challenge flag indecision? He just couldn't take the pressure and speed of the NFL. He couldn't make quick decisions.
