Harbaugh as OC, NOT HC!! We don't need another Nick Saban.

No way Harbaugh is taking an OC job.

He is the hottest coaching name out there.

Not saying Harbaugh's the answer or not, but just because it didn't work out with Satan has no bearing on hiring Harbaugh

So was Saban when we hired him.

It absolutely does! I can think of ONE coach that came straight from college to the NFL as HC and was successful: Jimmy Johnson. Who else can you name? The odds are against Harbaugh making this jump successfully.

Here's a partial list of sucessful college coaches that were also sucessfull after going to the NFL.

Bud Grant
Paul Brown
Jimmy Johnson
Tom Coughlin
John Robinson
Bobby Ross
Barry Switzer

Point taken however.

I like Harbaugh however, because he does have NFL experience as a longtime and sucessfull player and he is agressive on offense. I think he'd do well because he can relate to the players and his system is just what we need in Miami...he can also groom quarterbacks and knows how to coach them.

It's amazing at what good personnel moves will do for the perception of a great coach.

Not saying John Harbaugh isn't a good coach but he had some pretty good talent to work with. Where would he be if Ozzy hadn't pulled the trigger on Flacco and instead chose Henne the robot. He also got Ray Rice @ 2.

Nick Saban was WAY more accomplished as a college coach than Jim H. and look how he turned out. It is a long shot IMO that Harbaugh will have any success as an NFL HC.

It will all depend on the GM pulling the trigger on roster moves and the draft.

Same theory could be applied to Mike Smith in Atlanta. Had Parcels chosen Matt Ryan or Flacco at #1, Sparano would not even be on the hot seat right now.

Atlanta got the franchise QB and a starting LT in one draft. They also signed Michael Turner that year.

If you don't have a solid QB then you don't have squat in the NFL. Many coaches have lost their jobs because of poor personnel moves..especially at QB.

Look at Brian Billick and all the misses he had there at QB. All of the sudden they get Flacco and Harbaugh is a genius....just like Sparano was in 2008 when Pennington won Comeback POY.

Getting rid of Sparano is not the complete answer unless we can find a QB that doesn't give games away or one that does not have the ability to make a 4th quarter comeback once in awhile.

I'm not a fan of this conservative ball control crap so Sparano is going to have to evolve but I like him as a HC. The grass isn't alway greener and 2011 is not the time to be starting over with a new HC.

A new QB AND a legit QB coach... and new OC is the key IMO. Someone who knows how to utilize play makers.

What I want to know is who is responsible for the o-line tinkering and the fiasco at TE. Ireland is my guess....There has to be better options for a GM out their. Too many misses in FA!

Switzer does not belong that list, Ken.

If you don't agree, go read "Boys Will Be Boys" by Jeff Pearlman.

I agree. I wonder if Ireland also had a hand in the Pat White pick.

Amen to that Futt. Switzer had the house that Jimmy built and rode the momentum till a couple years when it began to crumble, and the owner began to think he made it happen again.

Switzer kept his head up jerry Jones' hiney, and that's about all.

HIS BROTHER A GREAT COACH?

HIS DAMN TEAM has the SAME PLAYERS FOR A DECADE!!!!!! LEWIS, REED, SUGGS, HEAP, MASON, and like a bunch of O-line, and Dline players.

He was handed a stacked team, that just needed a QB, and a RB, and they now have both for three years, and he still can't get them to the SB.

Cmon man he isnt a bad coach, but its not like he had to rebuild a team.

Lol..... Uh NO TO HARBAUGH!!! I AM TIRED OF ROOKIE HC, ESPECIALY STRAIGHT FROM COLLEGE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

and how seen people forget how everyone was complaining when Sparano lost Coach of the year to Mike Smith only 3 seasons ago.

Remember Sparano was a genius in 2008. Is it a coincidence that Smith also had the Rookie of the year QB in Matt Ryan?

Brian Belichick is a "genius" too but he also has Tom Brady. He wasn't so highly respected when he was trying to work with aging Bernie Kosar and a struggling Vinny Testeverde in Cleveland.

others...

John Harbaugh.....Joe Flacco
Tony Dungy...Peyton Manning
Sean Payton...Drew Brees
Bill Cowher...Ben R.

Even Norv Turner has gained back some respect after getting Phillip Rivers.

Coaches who lost their jobs because of bad QB choices...

Mike Nolan (Alex Smith)
Mike Singletary (Alex Smith)
Marty Mornhinweg (Joey Harrington)
Lane Kiffen (JaMarcus Russell)
Romeo Crennel (Brady Quinn)
Dennis Green (Matt Leinart)
Brian Billick (Kyle Boller)
Dick Jauron (Rex Grossman)
Dom Capers (David Carr)
and every Dolphin coach since Marino retired.

I understand and I don't like Switzer either but regardless of how he did it or what he inherited...he did win games and had a pretty decent record as a head coach out of college...so he does belong based on that.

another great example of how a great QB can get a bad coach to the promised land. Barry Switzer/ Troy Aikman

You still have to look at the fact of game management. Sparano had no clue in some games. Look at all the bad timeouts and players being lost on the field. Plus the ability to not pull someone when they were obviously doing bad.

There is a lot going in to play here. We did have injuries and inconsistent play along with other issues. But over all, Tony did not do a good job with coaching this year and there is no way to prove who will work out next. You can get Bellichek here and he still could mess up. the NFL has too many factors for good vs bad and you take the best option and run with it. Harbaugh or Cowher are the best option and it will at least bring back interest for a season if we do poorly. Either way though, I feel we have the talent to compete as long as we have a good leader.

Keep Sparano and get rid of Ireland, ST coach, QB coach and Henning only with the stipulation that Henne is the backup to compete with Thigpen unless we can sign a vet and draft a 1st round QB.
