I know most, including myself use to think, it would be Donald Lee or Karl Dorrel. I am not so sure about that anymore and I am just not sure who we should go after? Any ideas? I know some people are going to get upset by this comments but I would say one of the best offensive play callers in the NFL over the last 7-10 years is Cam Cameron. Dont see it happening.lol... But what he did in San Diego and now Baltimore, the numbers speak for themselves. Mcdaniels isnt going to happen, especially if we plan on keeping Nolan around.
After winning a Super Bowl as a HC I dont see Billick coming back as an OC. In the off chance Jones doesn't keep Garrett, he would be the obvious choice (with Ireland/Sparano's Dallas connect) but I doubt Jerry lets him get away. I say Kubiak, Garrett or Brad Childress (in that order) would work for me. We are assuming Sparano is still HC right?
Also if Nolan gets a HC job somewhere, I would look at Singeltary for DC.
I am reading that Dallas is hoping Sparano gets fired so they can give him HC job. How about A switcheroo, we take Garrett and give them Sparano. We will also throw in David Lee, as he is teaching the guys the wrong way to play QB...conservatively.
I find it hard to believe that Dallas wants sporano. This is their shot to get a big name coach (cowher, fisher, etc) and if they don't get one, I think they are fine with Garrett. He's got the team playing much better.

I dont get it? I hardly think Billick is some great offensive mind, same with COwher. THe Ravens Offense didnt pick up until after they got rid of Billick and neither guy could develop a QB to save their lives.
Our offensive line hasnt picked up and Sparano used to be an O-line coach.
But, as a *Offensive Coordinator*, he was really good. When he was the O-coordinator of the Vikings, they were they best offense, I believe.
And by way, whoever thinks a superbowel winning coach wont come back as an offensive coordinator, Mike Martz took his team to the superbowel and now he is the coordinator of the Bears. I know he didnt win, but nobody wants Billick as Head Coach. If he wants back in the league, he will start off as O-coordinator.
A&O,
I think the offensive line problems are more personel then coaching. He built a great line that was dessimated in the offseason and preseason cuts. I am not sure that is on Sparano, he is not in charge of personel. Maybe he was talked into it and convinced he could coach up these scabs. But I think whoever was in charge of personel moves on the oline should be taking some heat over it for sure.
SO Billick developed Culpepper originally in Minnesota, was that the time of his tenure? If so why did he have such problems getting an offense going in Baltimore?
I also agree that Chucky had an exciting offense when he was with the raiders, but isnt that Al Davis who controlled personel and player acquisitions in that camp?
childress didn't even call the plays when he was with philly. and he was a disaster as HC, so I am not sure why there'd be any confidence in his ability to be an OC here
David Lee is the obvious choice. He has OC experience. He'd keep the same terminology and it would make for an easier transition for the players.
Has Dorrell ever called plays?
You have to think of guys that Sparano has ties to. Who did he work with at New Haven and Boston University? Who did he work with in Cleveland, Washington, Jacksonville, and Dallas?
What about Chris Palmer? Sparano coached under him when he was the head coach in Cleveland, and they were on the Cowboys staff together. And he is currently the head coach of the Hartford Colonials, where Sparano's son happens to coach.
Sparano was on the 2001 Redskins staff with Brian Schottenheimer. He could be a candidate if Ryan axes him.

I am assuming since He was an offensive cordinator in college as well as the Headcoach for UCLA for at least 4 years or 5 years. That yes he has called plays.......He also worked under Shanahan for a few years in Denver as well.

Career suicide if he does, hell it might be career suicide if he trys a 50+ yrd FG this week on a 4th and 2.
What ex OC had the famous quote "you cant make chicken salad out of chicken shi@t" when he was let go, Kippy Brown or Gary Stevens (I think that was his name?)?
I'd give Chad Pennington a shot a la Jason Garrett. The dream catch would be prying some proven genius away (Cam), but given our reality of a coach in his last contract year and a ton of uncertainty at QB, I think I like Pennington.
In terms of Dorrell and Lee, I fear that they might have been tainted by (or protected by) being too close to Henning. I'm not impressed by Lee's development of QBs on our squad. I'm not really impressed by Dorrell's development of WRs either (Ginn stands out). They both seem to do well with players who are already developed (Pennington, Marshall, Bess...Hartline to an extent, even). As OC, I think you have to get the best out of your players, and I would say that a hallmark of our entire offensive coaching staff has been getting less than they should out of the talent they have.
