Brian Billick anyone?

I'm starting to think Sporano/Ireland are gonna get 1 more year, but if they dont I think Billick could be a wise choice. He's won a Super Bowl, he's an offensive minded coach and he has a history coaching with Nolan. He wouldn't cost as much as Cowher or Gruden either. (someone suggested this a month or so ago and I think I ridiculed the idea, but now i'd be willing to give him a shot). Thoughts?

Not as our HC.

Dream scenario, Cowher gets hired as HC, he talks Billick into taking over as Offensive Coordinator and we retain Nolan as D-Coordinator.

John Fox is hired as secondary coach.
Wade Phillips Linebackers coach.
Marvin Lewis hired as D-line coach.

Ouch!!! Our payroll would be HUGE! Ross would be forced to charge $1000 per ticket.

are you trying to get all of the loser HC together on the same staff? no thanks. plus HCs don't take their next job as a position coach.

finally, there's gotta be a reason that in all of these years since he was canned not one team ever seriously considered hiring Billick as coach.

It's unusual, but not unheard-of. Mike Martz has been an OC with multiple teams since his days as head coach of the Rams, and Mike Tice, former head coach of the Vikings, is a line coach with the Bears. OK, not the two best examples, but still...

What I don't want:

1.) A guy tied to a particular 'System' or 'Type' of team.
We need a coach that can, as part of an organization, take the best talent available and make a competitive football team with it regardless of whether it fits the mold he was last successful in.

2.) A guy who has been a successful head coach named dictator in charge of everything.
He brings in his buddies and makes all GM/Personnel decisions directly or by proxy. Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, need I say more.

As a side note, the buzz here in good ol' NC is that Cowher is talking with the Panthers again. He lives in Raleigh and is rooted in the area (Went to NC state, daughter in Elon College, etc)

Berk,

You are crazy if you think those guys are not good coaches. Yes, they are bad head coaches. But, they are great position coaches.

As for Monte,

Coaches salaries come out of Ross's own pocket. Whether that would "raise" ticket prices, I dont know.

But, when we are winning superbowels, thats all that would matter.
