The key to this situation is our owners mindset. He wants his "own guy". He can bring Cowher in, fire Ireland, and give Cowher all the things he wants on top of the fat paycheck. I admire Cowhers ability as a HC, I just hate looking at ole stinkface when he gets pissed off. It looks like he has crap on his lip.
I like Sparano. He is a good coach. I also like Ireland, he has done a good job with getting players here and drafting players. Have they made mistakes, yes, but no more then Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher made as coaches and or corresponding GM. We have something going here, give them some time is my opinion.
Has any HC ever won a Superbowl with more than one team? I don't believe so. It's a weird stat, but it may be telling. Maybe we should stay away from Cowher.
I think Miami's owner is going to fall into the trap of getting the big name. He doesn't like playing second to any in town franchise, and that's fine by me. He wants to be the best, and if that means dropping a huge amount of money to bring in a big name coach, I'm all for it.
As for those of you wanting to stick with Sparano: This team has plenty of talent, and it is extremely obvious if you're willing to set aside any predetermined prejudice that coaching has killed us this year. The players are frustrated, and rightfully so. With one signing this year, the coaching staff all of a sudden decided this wasn't a ground and pound offense. Big mistake. Who ever pulled the trigger on our interior offensive line moves doesn't need to be here next year either. The old adage is true: you build a successful team from the inside out, not the other way around.
Sparano and Ireland stays but "give them time" makes me want to puke!!!! How much time should it take to beat lousy Buffalo at home??!!!!.....how many years now since we have been garbage and how many decades is it going to take to be great again???.....man the excuses keep piling up!
After today's game and that article, I'm convinced Cowher WILL be our HC next year. I wonder who he'll bring in as OC and if he'll have complete control like JJ, Wanny, and Saban did.
With Wanny, and Kippy Brown, we played straight-ahead simple offense. Trick plays are nice sometimes, but Henning seems to rely solely on them. Henning also changes our offensive philosophy inside the 20. Kippy didn't. Yes, I'd rather have Kippy.
I heard, I think it was last year that Cowher has turned down some offers for coaching jobs the last couple of years because he wants to go to Carolina as that's where he currently lives.
He's been holding out for the Carolina job for quite sometime, and now that Fox's contract is up and won't get renewed and combine that with a 2-12 record so far, more than likely they will get Andrew Luck 1st overall which Cowher has said he want's a young and up and comer QB to work with when he takes his next coaching job.
I'd put my money on him going to Carolina but I could be wrong, and if he did there's nothing wrong with the next best thing, and that's Chucky.
For a fan base that wants a more exciting up-beat offensive team, isn't Cowher kinda a 3 yrds and a cloud of dust, defensive minded coach? I'd take Chuckie over Cowher right now.

His only HC position he coached with Pitt for 14 years. What gives you the impression he'd only be here for 3?

Huh? I said "3 yards and a cloud of dust" not 3 years Monty.

Ahh...sorry about that. What I remember is that Cowher was a more consistent coach than Gruden. Gruden came into an already-built team in Tampa and took them to ONE Superbowl. They went downhill from there.

Even so, it's a good point, even if unintentional.
The answer is, because if he doesn't produce in one year, everyone will be calling for his head on a platter.

Parcells did it too.
Gibbs has only been a head coach with the Redskins.
