who would you rather?"

Come draft day, the 2 Qb's that will probably be here for us to take:

Cam Newton, Auburn
6"6, 250
4.5 - 40yd
1st round

Who knows how this guy will end up at the next level..Has superior size, arm and speed. Handles himself well
under pressure (on the field anyhow). Biggest knock is really you will only have 13 games to base a decision on....However, if as a team you believe this guy could be the next Josh Freeman, the package may be too good to pass up..

Jake Locker, UW
6'3, 225
4.5 - 40yd
1st round

At this time last year, this guy was at in the top 3 of everybodys list. Considering the lack of talent around him this season, people may be seriously underating him. Remember the last time a highly rated junior Qb slipped to us as a senior late in the 1st round?!!!!!

Unless we can get a sure thing like Luck, I'd really rather we concentrate on O-Line, RB, and TE in the draft. If we're giving up on Henne, we need to trade for an established NFL QB. If we just want better competition in TC, then we can pick up a veteran either as a FA or trade (depending on who's available).

I would trade my 1st round in 2012, 1st round in 2013, and whatever else it took to get luck, he is the real deal

Will these two guys (especially Newton) be able to read complex NFL defenses?

The mental part makes up for atleast 75% of the QB position in the NFL.

I'm afraid of a guy like Newton. He's played only 1 season, in effect. The NFL is littered with QB busts who have played only 1 good season--Akili Smith comes to mind. This guy could be like Jamarcus Russel, huge QB with big arm whose skills didn't translate at this level. Very risky pick.
As for Locker, the last guy who was talked about as a top 10 pick and stayed in school and stunk it up was Brian Bromh. Locker had a bad year, don't really want him either. QBs should leave when they have the chance. Matt Leinert would have been a #1 overall pick had he left as a JR.

I hate to be a defeatist bum, but at this point I'm convinced that whoever we draft - no matter who it is - is going to stink. Because that's all we get here. We get guys who come here to Miami and stink. Or guys who come here and tear open their shoulders two years in a row. Or guys who come here and have a halfway decent stretch to finish out the season and then get jettisoned so that we can bring in Daunte Culpepper.

Thanks a lot, Drew Brees.

Maybe our luck will change one day.

Best to wait on trying to trade way up to get a number one or two pick until after the CBA hoping they'll implement a rookie salary cap.

Stay where we end up and concentrate on OL, RB, and TE.

I am not seeing it w/ Locker. People make excuses w/ the talent around him but I would not touch him. Ilove SEC football and Cam is far ahead of the game than Tim Tebow at the same stage. Dude has an arm and touch. Do I think he needs another year, maybe, but what else does he have to prove. If he passes character interviews or if I were comfortable w/ his character I would grab him.

Jake Locker is the real deal. I am an avid SEC fan and have watched both Cam and Mallett, and still believe Locker is a better fit. Cam reminds me too much of Vince Young. All the talent in the world, but once he gets paid, won't have the drive to win championship. Mallett is too inconsisent and doesn't have "it". Locker does

locker reminds me of Aaron Rodgers. Had good success in college but dropped in the draft as NFL genius' chose Alex Smith and Ronnie brown

RESPONSE: Thanks a lot, Drew Brees? It was us who passed on him late in the first round of the draft and he went early in the second round.

We passed on him again when San Diego let him go?

How is he at fault for us?

I am not an Auburn or Cam Newton fan, but bro., they are two *TOTALLY* different players.

Have you seen Cam Newton pass!? He can stand flat footed and throw 40 yard out patterns like he is throwing darts.

Cam Newton is a borderline *great* passer.

His problem/question at the next level is reading defenses.

Can he read them? That will be the question.

Vince Young has a great arm too. The problem is his accuracy and delivery.

Jeff George could throw 70 yards from his knees. Jamarcus Russell had maybe the strongest arm of any QB. none of that means anything if the guy isn't accurate or doesn't have it going on upstairs

A QB's mind IS the most important indicator of how successful he will be. His physical attributes are secondary. Marino couldn't scramble to save his life but who is going to argue his greatness? When healthy Chad Pennington was a winner, but may have had the weakest arm of any QB at his level. Bernie Kosar threw sidearm and looked like a wounded duck on the field, but he knew how to win games.

Compare those guys to, say, Randall Cunningham, Kordell Stewart, and Daunte Culpepper. All these guys were successful NFL QBs, but who would YOU rather have?

I remember how every broadcaster and their mother said how well john beck read defenses in college.

Its different game different speed in the pros..

I think us picking the right QB is all a matter of luck. Hopefully we will get lucky one of these days and pick the right one.

And im not giving up on henne just yet.

Guys, Cam Newton is completing 67% of his passes. His QB rating is 188.

The guy is a phenominal passer. Again, HE IS NOT VICK OR YOUNG.

He is a total different player. This guy is an amazing passer.

Why because he cannot scramble out of the pocket?

I haven't seen him play.

No, I just think because he is black, it is natural for people to automatically compare him to VInce Young or Michael Vick.

Im just telling you, Cam Newton is a much better QB prospect than both of those guys.

To compare him to them, is unfair.

Jamarcus Russell also completed 67% of his passes his senior year. In fact their stats are eeriliy similar. Just sayin.

Russell's stats:

2006 232 342 3129 67.8 9.15 58 28 8 16 167.03

Cam Newton's states:

2010 165 246 2589 67.1 10.52 94 28 6 21 188.16

Well thats why Jamarcus Russell is one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

They compared to my QB stats.....yeah thats right....

He didnt have any. He was a 3rd stringer.

As a black man I'd have to say that sounds kind of racist.

What exactly are you saying?
