Pats have a GREAT coach. On paper they're not as good as NY. In fact, there are a number of other teams in the league with more talent, but Belichick has performed miracles with that lineup. The Pats have acquired a large # of draft picks in the last 10 years, but their hit-to-miss ratio in the draft isn't that great.
I think we just need to admit it. Bill Belichick is the main reason the Pats are a great team. A little luck (Tom Brady) also helps. Luck (Emmitt Smith, for one) helped the Cowboys in the 90's.
The two TE picks I dont give two craps about because Tom Brady and their offensive system make any WR or TE look great. Include Brandon Tate in that as well.
Tell me what David Givens, Deion Branch, Bethel Johnson, Daniel Graham, David Patten, Lawrence Marouney and all those other offensive players have done when they left that sytem.

If you hate to say it why do you repeat it so G..D... often?
(even if you are correct! being a Dolfan in New England can be torturous ! )
The problem with getting in the top five is this for us...based on current standings even if we lost every remaining game it still may not be enough to get us into the top ten, much less the top five. We'd have to trade much more player wise than it would be worth.
That trade would almost certainly have to include Davis and Marshall with the possibility of Long as well.
I have to say I agree the Pats are showing how it's done. They bring in Moss and a previous Dolphins player, and set records for touchdowns and nearly go undefeated. We bring in Marshall and sit at the bottom of the NFL in offense. They send Moss and countless other good players away over the years, and continue at the top of the division.
It's pointless to go on talking about players. Players are only as good as the effort that is brought out of them, and the extent to which they work with their teammates. The only time this team came close to the right mentality in recent years was '08. We should focus on trying to understand how we lost it from then, *despite still having most of the same coaching staff*, rather than worrying about how we're going to bring in the next band-aid fix-it player from draft or free-agency.
