Some credit to the coaching staff

When Henne went down with a minute to play in the 3rd quarter, the coaching staff kept Thigpen on the sideline and called three Wildcat plays. By NFL rules, if Thigpen had entered the game before the fourth quarter, it would have prevented Henne (or Pennington) from returning to the game.

Smart coaching. For once.

Henning earned his money today

Yes, this was smart on more than one level. First of all, we didn't know for sure at the point whether Henne was definitely out of the game.

But secondly and more importantly, the Titans didn't know either. Holding off on putting in Thigpen kept them guessing as well.

And having the wildcat plays up our sleeve bridged the gap.

Not something every team can do.

I've been saying this from the get go, it isn't he coaching. Dan Henning is a great OC, it's the execution not the play calling. For him to use the Wildcat to allow us time to regroup was brilliant in my book. Henning is not the problem.

Calling a handful of good plays doesn't make up for an entire seasons worth of conservative playcalling

Yeah but he had them throwing passes instead of running and running out the clock on the 3rd quarter faster.

That move was a confused smiley to me.

We have to be happy winning against the Titans. If we would have lost we would have had to pack it in. I don't see any football expert questioning Dan Henning. I do see lots of talking heads wondering why Brandon Marshall, the highest paid receiver in all of football, has only 1 TD catch. Thigpen is the spark and he's proving two things; it isn't the play calling and Henne was the reason why we lost most of our losses.

You're getting medical about this WeLead.

If anything Thigpen *IS* proving it's the playcalling. He's at his best so far when the play breaks down.

Are we watching the same Miami Dolphins?

Futt: were you happy with your man Henne's play today? I always enjoy how you spin the horrible Henne's play even when he clearly was outplayed by Thiggy.

We should also thank Kerry Collins today for his version of Chad Henne with ten more years of experience.

Did someone in this thread call Henning a 'great OC'?

Welead I can't be sure you even watch the games. You can't just look at the numbers, you need to look at the situations as well.

I thought Henne played pretty well. He's not fantastic, but he did make some good throws that you love to ignore. The deep pass to Hartline was a great play.

Henne accounted for most of the team's offense today whether you like it or not.

I agree, Henne played well...not great, but well, and certainly well enough to win the game. Thats all we can ask of him until the lights start to burn a bit brighter for him.

The one undeniable fact is this; he will not get any better, ever. If he's on the sideline...injuries aside.

Pennington proved today that he is no longer a viable option as a player.

The frustrating thing is this; we'll have to get a long term option at quarterback and we can't draft one. We need too many other players to further improve our roster. If we get a quarterback it'll have to be via a trade or via free agency...and none of the current options are very attractive long term.

Chris Simms...no thanks. He stunk in Tampa for the most part.

Jamarcus Russell...worth an experiment especially given our current situation but he's got a very large mountain to climb in proving he's worthy of another shot as a candidate to start.

Patrick Ramsey...he might be the best of this group but what is that really saying?

Jeff Garcia...no thanks.

Dontae Culpepper...no thanks.

So unless there are other options out there that have not been reported yet my two choices out of this group are, Ransey and Russell.

After the season we try to upgrade them via free agency if possible...and we should create a job for Pennington. Maybe he could help Russell to realize (some of) his draft day potential.

Russell is garbage! Not just as a player I hate that he is coming to Miami

I like the offense design. What bugs me is when he goes into shotgun formation inside the 20 which screams PASS, the defense does not have to even think about the run.

Then he goes into a 1 WR set that screams run and runs out of it.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I had to listen to some of the game on the radio, specifically the portion when Henne got hurt. The radio announcers were raving about how well Henne had played.
