If Jason Allen was the difference between our making the playoffs or not, we were doomed anyway. He had a nice start this season but regressed so badly that we were forced to play Sean Smith who isn't much better. Honestly, outside of special teams, he was a wasted roster space. If Harris' knee is sound, even at 35, he's a marginal upgrade.
This board is insufferable sometimes. One minute everybody is dying to see us sign Al Harris. The next minute everybody is pissed that we cut a perennial underachiever.
Jason Allen deserved to be cut. He was given the opportunity to shine and he flubbed it up. Playing Special Teams is not hard folks, we don't need a No. 1 bust on our Special Teams. I hope they take this attitude and apply it to other positions on the field.

Underachiever, but still much better than other guys we kept. Please justify for me why we kept Nate Ness and dropped Jason Allen. ANYONE?
I think it's similar to Ginn - throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The front office/coaching staff sees that someone isn't capable of doing what they have in mind for the person, so they get rid of the person vs. maximizing their potential and minimizing exposure to their weaknesses. I think that it's possibly a philosophical approach more than anything...a willingness to throw the baby out with the bathwater and being ok with it. As a fan, I, like many others, consider Allen vs. Ness on ST and see it differently than the decision makers.
We've thrown enough babies out with the bathwater to start a nursery ... but truth know, I don't think we lost much in this case.
Jason allen has not bee teachable with more thna enough time trying.
It does however seem that the FO uses firings to back up that they are doing something (anything) ... these decsiions should have been resolved much earlier
I'm beginning to question the secondary coaching skills of this coaching staff
Sparano explained it like this
Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Benny Sapp, Al Harris, and Jason Allen. Guess who became the last guy in the rotation. Dumping Benny Sapp after giving up Camarillo for him would have created flack. My guess, it was a toss up between Sapp and Allen, and they went with Allen

Did he just forget about Nate Ness?! Also, we haven't even worked out Al Harris, yet he's already penciled in, at least, as our dime DB. That's just about as short sighted as you can get.
So, what happens if (or when) Al Harris gets injured??!

that was pretty good.
I dont entirely understand it either, I thought Jason Allen was having a decent year, Something else must have happened behind closed doors that we are unaware. Cause I agree that somebody else beside Allen should have been cut. Maybe Jason didnt take it well when he lost his spot to Sean Smith. Maybe he was unhappy because they were not offering him an extension, who knows, but I dont think it was based on play alone, He seemed like one of the only players in the secondary that could actually catch the ball this year.
No? Well, the "special" teams just got worse, and they were pretty terrible to begin with. This guy can tackle, something we didn't see very much of last week.
