Integrity of the Game

Goodell was so concerned with the supposed dirty hits last week that he made sure defenders knew that suspensions were going to be handed out for illegal hits (ironically, only one of the three hits that was the subject matter of this new league crackdown was arguably dirty). Now, he has a referee who clearly either blew a critical call due to incompetence, or had other reasons for ruling the way he did. Either way, the integrity of the game is clearly in question. We can all debate about the field goals instead of touchdowns, or the running game's ineffectiveness, but the Dolphin players fought and scrapped and played well enough to win that game. To have it taken from them the way it was makes the NFL look like a second rate league with second rate officials. I have no doubt that Goodell will do nothing. Personally, ever since he allowed the Spygate tapes to be destroyed, I have had no doubt that he is completely apathetic to maintaining the integrity of the league. This sort of BS (which happens all too often i.e. Ed Hochuli), along with the looming lockout does not bode well for the NFL. In the words of Jerry Glanville, unless things change, NFL may end up standing for Not For Long when it comes to the leagues status as the # 1 sports league in the US.
