Concerns even after a great win!!!

1) COACHING!!!! I do not understand why we can not manage the clock properly.... This game is one of inches...One second could mean the difference between playoffs and going home... Sporano is very poor at managing a game... It is as if he doesn't know the rules...OR he can not think 3 plays ahead...

For instance...

When Green Bay has it 1st and goal from the 2...and there is 1:20 left on the clock...why is sparano not taking time outs...
If they score, it leaves him with 1 minute on the clock to get inot filed goal range...
Absolutely pitiful clock managment....
If I am a fan...and I can figure it out....Why can't he?
Unbelievable....

2) Play calling....As many have said,,,,when you are bashing the ball down the other teams throught...and you have two bruising backs...Why are you not running more...Why even pass if they can not stop the run...
Why even put the ball in the air? Especially in the 4th quarter...

3) Wildcat----It is not working because teams have figured it out...
You blitz 2 from the outside....
Unless a RB can pick up a hot read...he is toast...
They can easily counter this with the 2 back formation....Once again poor play calling...

4) Special Teams---MUCH better today...BUT I call out Lydon Murtha and Bobby Carpenter..
These are the two culprits...Carpenter is absolutely PATHETIC!!!! I saw all 3 of his blown assignments/missed blocks..
He needs to be released!!!
Lydon Murtha is PATHETIC as well.... He can not protect...3 times he has also missed blocks affecting a punt or field goal block..
He has to go too...

FINALLY!!!!!!!

Kudos to the new special teams coach....Someone who is anmated on the sideline.... That is what you need on ST....

I think it will be a punishing game next week against Pitt...

dude...

Watch the game again!!!!!

The last 1:20 was another sign of how Sporano has no clue about clock management...

OH...

and having your QB go down on one knee when you have a shot at a hail mary!!!! pleeeeeeese....

if he takes the time out at 1:30....it changes EVERYTHING!!!!

You can not say it would of turned out the same...

Bottom line....you take the time out at that point...Try to conserve as much time for your team...

Considering how good the pass protection was all day, and the fact that Brandon Marshall is the tallest guy out there, I agree that the decision not to throw the hail mary pass was ridiculous.

Yes just kneeling it was stupid and pathetic needed to throw the hail mary.

ghotirule:

My point is...if they call timeout at 1:20...after the first play..
Then GB's next play would/might of been different..
Hence they may have scored...or ther may of been an incomplete pass instead of a run...

You can not say the same plays would of occured...

I'm sorry but I disagree with that philosophy....

That is something that Wanny would do...

Belichek would NEVER not try to stop the clock to attempt to save as much time as possible...

You do not win in this league by "coaching in defensive style"

my 2 cents

on the 50 yard line with 4 seconds you either go for the record FG, or hail mary, you never kneel when tied.

Look again the coaching was shakey, and we won.

I said we should win this one, and predicted 20-17 Mia but 23-20 close enough..

It would be different if all they needed was a FG. If they only needed a FG, then the D has to take whatever timeouts it has left, because a FG is a given at that point. But, when the opposing team needs a TD, you don't take a timeout on defense there.

I do agree on not throwing a hail mary at the end of regulation. You have two 6'4 WR in Marshall and Wallace.

You need to keep throwing the ball to keep the defense honest. And even when you are running well, you can't always convert every first down running the ball. We demonstrated this several times yesterday.

You mentioned the Wildcat. We didn't run it once yesterday.

Lydon Murtha looked awful as the second team LT during the preseason. If he's not a good backup, and he can't block on special teams, why keep the guy?

Carpenter has sucked out loud on special teams. He's allowed two blocked punts, and he lost contain on the Pats kick return. But, they appear to like him as a backup ILB. And your backup LBs need to play special teams. Not sure what they will do here.

Guys just enjoy the win. Forget about what could had been or what could of happened. We won. Enjoy the week.

Thats why they play the games. Every team makes mistakes. What team doesnt have flaws. All that can be corrected.

Nothing wrong with seeking improvements after a win. You know the saying, "there's always room for improvement"

The debate obviously lies in exactly what needs to be improved.

As far as improvement, i feel the offense did pretty well, play calling can be improved however, and perhaps goal line defense as well, keep the improvements going on ST and we will be a great team.

If we can get John Jerry and Jared Odrick Back next week that would be great too.

"It's been fun to get the reaction of visiting coaches to the color of their locker room. Most don't notice it, but those that do are in trouble. . . . When I talk to an opposing coach before a game and he mentions the pink walls, I know I've got him. I can't recall a coach who has stirred up a fuss about the color and then beat us.” Hayden Fry

Ghotirule:

I just rewatched the tape of the game....

with 1:20 left 2nd and goal from the 1....

GreenBay let the time tick away till 37 seconds, then called timeout..

My point is that the phins should of stopped the clock at 1:20...
That would force a 2nd down play..

If they score.. we have a minute left to get into field goal range...
If they pass and its incomplete...they are 3rd and goal...
Same scenario happens again...

Now its true that GB could've ran the clock down...BUT...It still expanded our options...
Sorry but in my opinion a timeout by miami should of been called there..

my 2 cents

The point is that you can be happy with the win and leave it at that but if you do, then you have no right to complain when the next team you play wins the games based on those screw-ups.

So all you, "Don't worry, Be Happy," People, I don't want to see you joining in the criticism when we lose due to the same dumb mistakes that did NOT cost us this week because it is the absence of such criticism that only encourages the idiots to remain idiots.

Again, as far as the Hail Mary NON-pass is concerned, all you people who think that it was EVEN AN ARGUABLE TACTIC TO KNEEL DOWN, answer one question, we won the coin toss and had a shot but how would you have felt had we LOST the coin toss and they had scored. That would mean that you knelt down on your last opportunity to win the game. Tell me how in the world is that a justifiable play??????????????????????????

its impossible to tell what would had happened if we did this or if we did that.....Its all in the past now.....Point is we won and we will enjoy the week...

How about this.....If henne throws a hail mary...gets intercepted and they score a TD....they still win....Because its a possibility isnt it....You know as they say anything is possible.

As far as next week.....We better not lose because i will be the first one pissed off and raising hell.

Agreed. Like i said all these mistakes can be corrected...I just hate it when my own breathen get upset after a win.

Its really a good debate talking about what can be fixed and i agree there are a whole lot of things to fix. It started with special teams last week. We fired the special teams coach....And if you think about it
we actually won the game on special teams....

Carpenter is a stud!!!!!!

I hope he can keep playing well.

I was talking about Dan Carpenter. Our Kicker. Although his kickoffs leave a lot to be desired, he is awesome on field goals.
