The Niners know how to use him. On the field for every punt and kick. He lined up in the offense on only a few downs, mainly to stretch the field. He was thrown to once, on a short out for eight or nine yards, after being given a huge cushion.
Not a huge part of the offense, but productive for the short time he was there. Huge on the return game though.
the problem with their mistakes is you can see them all coming. of course Ginn would do well in a role limited to returning kicks and being a deep threat/decoy. that was the only thing he did well here, and would only improve once the pressure of being a #1 receiver was finally lifted. same with matt roth. he was a solid run stopping LB for us and we let him go for nothing. now he's on the browns and playing very well on an improved defense.
I wouldn't mind their mistakes so much if they were things that only looked bad in hindsight. but here, a little bit of foresight would have shown that letting both go for a 5th round pick total was a bad move.
You guys are absolutely out of control. First of all, Ginn was in the offense about 40% of the time. Second, he made 3 nice catches and was open on a long pass that was thrown to the wrong side and intercepted.
He returned punts and kicks for a couple of long gains.
My how the voices here change seems like every week. Ya'll could not wait till Ginn was gone now it's "we made a mistake".
It's not that we need the speedy returner, it's that we need to cover kicks and punts. We need a kicker that can hit the end zone consistantly. We need better blocking on put teams.
Come on guys, let's start looking at what we really need and stop complaining about who we don't have.

I knew someone would blast him for that and not mention the postive things he did in that game.
Now I will say that the one punt return where he retreated and lost yardage was really dumb.
But, give him a little crack and look out!
I'm not a Ginn lover, but I don't hate him either. He can be an asset in many ways, and was an asset to SFO last night.
Come on, Ginn made so many mistakes while he was here. I'm glad he's gone, he wasn't worth the money, you don't pay a return man that kind of money. He didn't do anything to make SF win last night did he?
Ginn was/is the fastest man in the NFL. How often does someone like that fall into our laps? The fact that our coaches could not figure out how to utilize such raw ability says more about the coaches than it does about Ginn.

Put them in position to win 3 times. Takes a team to win and SF doesn't have it.
Insane??
Last season we swept the jets and Ginn was a big factor in those wins. This season we are likely to be swept by the jets. Did we have someone to step in to replace Ginn in the kick-off return game? So, are we a better team without Ginn? If we hit a home run with that 5th round pick then the answer is easier.
Some players do well in different systems with other personnel around them. Ginn has already been hurt and only has contributed recently for the Niners. To think he would be different here in Miami is wishful thinking.
I just find this thread funny because I was one of the few people who didn't call for Ted Ginn's head on a weekly basis while he was here, and now that he's gone we have multiple people singing his praises.
Outside of 3-4 plays in a span of three years, the guy stunk on ice when he was wearing a Dolphins uniform. Glad he's gone. S.E.P.

Whoa step back... I never complained about Ginn.
I've never thought he was more than a third or fourth WR, but the dude was a monster on STs. And seeing him with SF has confirmed what I thought at the time - letting him go was a mistake.

If we would have taken a pay cut, then I would have been in favor of keeping him. He was paid WAY too much to only play STs.
I never thought we should get rid of him. I just didn't think he should be a starting WR. I curse the coaches' lack of foresight every time Cobbs goes back for a kick or Bess goes back for a punt. They both have good hands, and there is no anxiety that either will drop the ball, but also there is no anticipation that either one will break a long one. Ginn was a lousy receiver, but a very good return man.
I thought he was a big time bust and hated him at WR because he was such a wuss but didn't want to get rid of him for just a late round pick. If we could have gotten a 3, sure, or a 4, maybe, but for just a 5 I wanted to keep him around since he was the most dynamic KR we ever had. And good point to whoever pointed out that we DID sign someone at the beginning of the year just to return kicks--in fact he did even less than Ginn who at least played a lot at WR. That guy sucked so much I don't even remember his name.
