How the hell are you going to fire bonamego, and then promote darren rizzi to the position when this guy is also part of the problem, this coaching staff doesn't make any since.
With the release of Bonamego, the logical step is his assistant. However, that doesn't mean the Dolphins will not seek out an experienced coach to head special teams somewhere during the season or afterwards.
I'm pleased that Bonamego was fired by Sparano. That was the right thing to do. Now we'll have to wait for a couple of weeks to see if changes are made to correct blocking and tackling. One can only hope Rizzi is smart and capable of making the necessary adjustments with current personnel.
Rizzi is the logical move. He knows the personnel more than some guy they'd bring in from the outside.
I mean look at it this way...it really couldn't get much worse than what we've seen already...take a risk, otherwise pack your bags, the NFL is not for you.

It's the middle of the football season. Coaches are coaching right now. There aren't a lot of unemployed NFL special teams coaches sitting around waiting for a phone call.
Firing Bonamego is more symbolic than anything. Do you think that Bonamego coached Lydon Murtha and Bobby Carpenter to not block anyone? The players did not execute. The coach has accountability because special teams have been an issue for a while, and he didn't get them fixed. But, the Pats ran simple twists, and guys fanned on their blocks. That's a player execution issue.

I agree about player execution, but question is who signed that said
player to the team?
If I'm Sparano I ask Parcells to coach it for a couple weeks. You guys might not think that a good idea, but you know that the Tuna would be all over their asses and would demand huge improvement both with Rizzi and the players.
Hell, these players are supposed to be pros. They can get it done with the right leadership.

I would think that when it came time to trim down the number of players, special teams players were part of the selection process of who stays and who goes. The coaches make picks, advocate for those who have promise, and "badda bing," there's the team. Selecting solid players apparently is harder than it looks. In all sports it's execution under the circumstances that makes a top player. It also applies in the team concept. The more players that execute their blocks and tackles well, the better the chances of team success.
Let's hope that Rizzi is a miracle worker and can make progress with ST.
