In the beginning of the game, Henne looked like a fish out of water, then in the second quarter he stepped it up and played very well. The loss was the result of the stupid wildcat. Get rid of this stupid thing
I wouldn't say the loss was a result of the wildcat but I do agree that it's time to put it on the shelf. It is simply not needed and caused more problems than it can ever solve. It not only gets Henne out of rythum it disrupts the running game as well.
I really believe we have much to be excited about. The Jets, as much as I hate it, are a darn good team. We can beat NE next week. However we must put the pressure on Brady.
Henne has all the potential in the world, coach him up on looking off defenders, reading the field, keeping the ball in the field of play, touch passes/not all fast balls, better accuracy and pocket awareness. Other than that he's average!
Seriously, drop the wildcat unless we go back to how we used to run it, with the QB in there. Deception and an off-balance defense were what made it work, not having an extra blocker.
And we have GOT to make progress on red-zone efficiency, whatever it takes. We had 3 field goals and 2 TDs, the Jets 4 TDs and one field goal. An offense that lives on field goals needs to gain more than twice as many yards as one that scores TDs.
Some of this is on play calling, but some of it IS on Henne. He needs to gain a better feel for how defenses tighten up with the shorter field near the goal line and adjust his decision making accordingly.
He looked better in the pocket today though -- not a lot of time at any point in the day and he was still getting it done. No interceptions except that garbage one at the end. A nice job throwing downfield when the coaches let him. I'm liking how he seems to be coming along.
