No. I admit that I don't know why he was cut yet.

But if he was injured going into this weeks game, I like the move. It allows us to renegotiate next week and pay him what an oft-injured backup deserves.

Well Phinsfan2, I don't think the timing is at all odd. Before week 1 when all the contracts are guarnteed, they probably had a sit-down meeting. Probably went over everything again, like a good front office does, probably looked for places where they can save money. Saw they could save $13 mill with Grove if he wasn't here. Probably went to the football people, they probably hashed it out. And a decision was made.

Now you can agree or disagree with the decision, but the "timing" of it makes perfect sense. Front Office was duing its due-dilligence

I'm not arguing that. We all admit they saved money.

But you are inventing "meetings" between the money and the football people. You don't know this. You are saying that ownership is interfering with football decisions. You don't know this. You may be right, but it is a harshly cynical outlook to be taking without knowledge of all the facts.

I think there is another possibility - that Cory Proctor will be a better backup for the next few weeks. That Grove's minor injuries may be more sever than they seem. That Grove, who is always getting injured, got injured again in practice. If this is the case, then it is a solid football decision made by football people that has the side effect of making the money people quite happy.

I see a possible win-win here.

I'm not making anything up, the guy was due a huge roster bonus come Sunday at 1:01pm. That is a fact. He was cut over money. Not injuries. Not anything else. Every outlet is reporting it.I don't know what more you need. He practiced all week and wasn't injured, again ANOTHER FACT!

This wasn't a football decision, this was a "money" decision. But whatever, believe what ya want.

Mike I agree with Phinsfan about the timing being wierd, they should of sat down and looked at the money aspect a week ago during the final cuts and not waited till 3 days before the 1st game. Depending on how popular Grove was in the locker room, a last minute move like this could kill team moral (but to be fair he may of been the most hated guy in the locker room also, we don't know). I think this move makes way more sense 4 days ago then today. All football teams make moves related to money so that dont bother me as much as the timing does. Maybe they plan on re-signing him or Hartwig after week one, who the hell knows anymore with these guys.

But they didn't "officially" announce Berger was starting till Monday on Labor day I believe. After the cuts were made. If Grove had won the job, they would have gladly paid him. He didn't, and a decision was made later in the week based on his salary and his back-up status. I don't find that odd.

Bottom line, they would rather save money than have a quality back-up in an uncapped year.

So who here agree's that I saw this comming, and that next year C is going to be a big priority???

Great move, he wasnt starting, clearly still injured, and makes WAY to much money!!

The FO took a chance on a top notch center who was injury prowned, and lost the risk.

Berger is a career backup, but I hope he finds a new level, and Andrew Hartline is happy lol..

Procter is another solid backup on Berger's level, so neither is phenominal, but can get the job done.

I hope we go get the best center prospect in the draft, heck lets draft two of em!!

I will say it now, expect to trade down maybe twice, then our first pick a center in round two!!

Grove is 30 and somewhat injured according to most reports I have read. He is coming of a 12 game season in which he played well but certainly not great. Prior to joining the Dolphins, he played another 12 game season in 2008 and a 7 game season prior to that. His injury history is fairly well established. This preseason was less than spectacular as he failed to win the starting job from Berger. Having said all of this, this is still a money decision. The front office obviously decided that he wasn't worth the money he was due to receive. I can't argue with that. I never saw him dominate last year, and now he is a year older and again not the picture of health. Maybe he'll get resigned. Who knows? My guess is that if his teammates feel they would have been much better with him then we'll hear one of them speak his mind on the subject.

You speculated there was a meeting between the money people and the football people. You speculated that ownership is making football decision because of a loss. I don't think you know that, you are just theorizing.

Agree that money was a factor. But it was the football people that made this decision, not ownership. They would have done this under H. Wayne H. This kind of cold hearted cut is their MO.

So your saying Sparano and the footabll people would rather have Corey Procter than Jake Grove at back-up center? IF SO, then fire Sparano and our football people because that is flat out stupid!! For a back-up job, sorry that is stupid!!

The football people don't care about his contract. They aint paying for it out of their pocket.

Perform up to the level of your paycheck or lose your paycheck.

That is very difficult to say not knowing what is going on with Grove. Agree they would like a healthy Grove over Cory Procter, but when the heck does that ever happen?

And if Grove is indeed injured, he's not going anywhere. If Grove is injured, this is a good move.

They care about his roster spot. If Grove can't effectively back anyone up and is always a question mark, then they may have decided a sure thing is better.

All this bickering and you guys fail to see the big picture here.

Pat White-wasted pick
Patrick turner- wasted pick
Wilson- wasted money on agree agent ( this is even worse cause with a free agent you know or should know what your getting)
Grove- has never finished a season yet we pay big bucks for him
Anderson- wasted pick
D. Martin TE- thrown away
Sean smith- demoted

I can do this all day cause the list is huge. I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy b4 the season not cause of grove but because too many mistakes and too much money being thrown at FA that are not that good

Don't forget Earnest Wilford and Eric Green! Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post did the list today and tallied up the wasted money. I forget it now off the top of my head, but the number was HUGE.

I'll take my one mistake over your spanglish any day buddy, sides I was using my iPhone, what's your excuse?

Let's not mistake this Mia
Henne- Unproven. This year will tell so I am not doing jumping jacks just yet.
Incognito- Great name but comes with baggage we all know that.
Vontae Davis- Again, we will see this year

If Marshall get's hurt who is backing him up?
Dansby is good but a little over priced.

Pennington- Super smart but also super fragile

Thigpen- Third string QB not really HOF material here.

I am not down on the team just yet but I am not blind either some pretty big mistakes have been made and 3 days from the season opener we are still cutting people.

Hey, I'm just reporting what that head coach says. Why are you jumping all over my case?

You said if Sparano thinks Proctor is a better choice than Grove he should be fired. If I take what the coach says at face value then Sparano thinks Proctor is a better choice. Period.

Man, this is the second time in as many days that you have just gone into a diatribe for no good reason. You really need to relax. Hope you enjoy the game from the press box, and return in a better mood.

Nice. I know I'll be eating wings and drinking Red Hook all served up by some well endowed women! But it ain't the press box.

You sound like your down on the team!!!

I mean come on people he wasn't going to start, so yeah cut him save some cash.

Sure this FO made some unorthadox moves that can be irratating, but let's just wait a couple week's before we set the torch's on fire!smileys with beer
