Hey, if Long is down and out then our running game is shot and our season is over. Period. I mean to think otherwise is kidding yourself.

Oh please, Murtha can't play. Did you watch a preseason game? He was overmatched by backups. If Long is out our offense is totally screwed.
Well all this BS is Carey's fault, afterall he gave up the sack, and fell into Long's knee.
I think we need to let Carey go, he is just a average starting RT, we need to go after the best RT in the draft next year, well at least top 5 prospects.
Im not a huge Carey fan. He is ok, but his side always seems to break down.
Are you familiar with the concept of TEAM GAME? in the TEAM GAME concept, if a piece is broken -even a really, really important piece- you can replace that piece.

I have to ask, but who, and what is this referring too?
i think that if long is out this year that we will be hurt by it i wouldn't put us any less than .500 still, but i also feel that we are an 11-12 win team with him.
Having said that i dont feel like he will be out, at least not for the preseason hit he is still out there working out, be it only on a bike. It would seem that if he is hurt bad that he would be at best standing around on the sideline

Some pieces can't be replaced. Especially when you look at who is behind that piece on the depth chart.
Even if we slide over Vernon Carey to LT, we then become weak at BOTH tackels spots.
"Some pieces can't be replaced." ANY piece can be replaced. I'm not comfortable with Murtha, either, but you can replace superlative with adequate and still be successful. I believe we have several guys other than Carey that are adequate.

Exactly. Its a team game. We may get a sack or two more per game without long. That means that Henne has to be more careful holding on to the ball, Marshall has to be a bit sharper off the line, the coaching staff has to call more adjustments, and our running game has to step it up on the right side. But we have talent all over the field on offense, and one guy isn't the whole team. It isn't like we are playing with no one at the LT position.
I think Miami should pick up another o- line man next yr inthe draft and I'm talking top rds. Leon in Denver has been saying it since I've been on this site no o-line no offense
I think we must keep adding o-line, they are the heart and soul of the offense. They make the so-called "skill" positions look better. Maybe we don't need to invest as many really high draft picks here, but I believe in the same philosophy with o-line as with QB's, but more so-take one every year or two and see how they do at this level.

No more difficult than 75% of the other teams in the NFL..
I fully expect that some of the teams we currently fear on that list will either come out of the gate flat or will experience a major injury early in the season. It happens every year. Some teams you expect to be great just tank, and other teams that you don't expect come up and play well. Remember Cincinnati a couple years ago?

lol, for starters every single team in the phins division will face at least 8 playoff teams from a season ago. Like I said, not a big deal..

I agree. The "tough schedule" excuse isn't going to fly for a poor season. Good NFL teams must beat Good NFL teams. I think Miami is capable of playing with anyone. Hell they had the 2 Super Bowl teams dead to rites last year and let them off the hook (to quote Denny Green)...so Miami can play with anyone. Time to finish games!!

Of the list you mentioned Carey and Long are the real studs. Jerry is unproven. I am talking about taking another stud like Long a guy you know will be a stud. I don't think anybody doubted Long's ability when we drafted him. If you have 3 studs in the O-Line then your whole offense opens up. Hey if Jerry turns out great then fine but if not you can't substitute 3 power house oline, that kind of domination is key.
As for the schedule I like it, if you wanna be the best you have to beat the best. I don't want to get to the playoffs playing against scrubs I wanna know my team is legit
