They don't want to pay a backup that kind of money. iInning is secondary in this instance. This team lost $7.7 mill last year. It's penny pinching time

I don't buy that this is the reason. That loss has more to do with accounting than anything else.

Bernie Madoff wasn't doing our books!! No fuzzy math will hide that kind of loss. This team lost big money last year. Only 2 teams lost money and out of the 2 Miami lost a bunch more than Detroit. I don't think any funny business was going on, I firmly believe it was legit.
7 million on a pro team is chump change!! At the end of the day the appreciation of the franchise is where the real money is at. I can't see them even considering making a player move based on a few million. If it is really that bad then it is time to get yet another owner!! This sounds a lot like Art Modell!!

Remember though, out of 32 NFL teams the Miami Dolphins were one of 2 teams to lose money last year. And the other team to lose money wasn't even close to the Fins. Miami lost the most money by a mile. Some think that is a bogus number, I don't. And moves like this prove that to me.
On the idea of profit/loss, always remember, figures don't lie, but liars figure...Also...you can twist a figure, through the use of tax forward accounting, payment adjustments, prior billing of future payables, etc, etc, etc....I would not sweat these numbers.
