Friday training camp NOTES

CB Sean Smith also returned to the first team after serving a 1-day sentence with the backups

Odrick, by the way, is giving the guards nightmares on the pass rush drills.

Dolphins C Jake Grove limped off the field after having a bad collision in the final minutes of practice. Don't know if he's seriously hurt

Evan Oglesby also made a nice INT in the end zone on an underthrown post pass by Pennington

Text from a team source lst night when inquiring about Smith's day w/ 2nd team: "He's fine...Just needs to keep working."

Bess continued his quietly dominant camp with several great catches from Henne.

Dan Carpenter was 6-6 FG's. Good from 35, 40, and 41.

and for those keeping score at guard, today was Incognito-Thomas part of practice, Incognito-Jerry later in practice

Will Allen had a sack of Henne in 11-on-11's

WR Greg Camarillo made a spectacular one-handed TD grab in red zone 7-on-7, then appeared to injure groin.

Ike Alama-Francis' emergence as a run stuffing OLBer makes Charlie Anderson's versatility less important. He hasn't worked with starters yet

Dolphins rookie ILB Austin Spitler (illness) continues to miss the practices, allowing JD Folsom to gain some ground on him.

Jared Odrick is getting better at playing the 5-technique every day. Have a hard time believing he won't open the exhibition season starting

Even though Paul Soliai is no longer running with the starters at NT, he's showing improvement.Still think he's a 4-3 DT though. Down to 345

Joe Berger began Friday morning's practice as the first-team center. Coach Tony Sparano says he's looking for toughness from that spot.

I'm anxious to hear about Smith improving. The word from camp has been concerning me. Also, with Odrick, Starks, and Wake, our 3rd-down pass rush is going to be NASTY!

Sean Smith has had an awful camp thus far. And it ain't all just Brandon Marshall beating him up everyday. EVERY WR on miami has, and as a group Miami's WR's arent anything that special.

I mean if you are struggling vs Bess, Camarillo, and Hartline....what the hell ya gonna do vs Moss, Holmes, Edwards, Evans, Boldin, Rice, OchoCinco...etc this season

I think they should try out Smith at FS, just to see how he does. Will Allen and Vontae at the corners and move him to FS. Why not? It's worth a shot, he's tall and fast. It's worth a shot.

I would agree but the real question is does Smith hit hard enough. The safety is supposed to be the guy that the opposing receivers have in the back of their mind when they jump up to catch the ball as in "DEAR GOD, I hope I don't get hit by that guy when I am totally stretched out to catch this pass, that will hurt like a **&%&(*()!!!!"

Smith isn't a FS. That is a move that would take more than a couple weeks to pull off.

Sparano said today in 238 reps so far in practice in camp, Clemons has had 1 mental error.

Agree. I think the consensus is that FS is Clemons' job to lose.

Smith won't start at CB because of Will Allen. But Smith a much better player than Jason Allen, and he'll be a good Nickel back.

From Omar Kelly today:

Will Allen WILL BE THE NICKEL CB. He might start, but he'll be the nickel because no one else can play it now (outside of Jason Allen).

After the 4th or 5th wayward PWhite throw in a blitz drill, Parcells turned, lasered a look at Ireland. The GM quickly walked over.

More and more it's sounding like Will Allen may end up on the PUP list and our top 3 CBs will be Davis, Smith, and Carroll. Talk about youth!

Carroll is on 3rd team DB chart. He won't be starting anytime soon on defense. Plus Carroll can't play the nickle DB spot. Only Jason Allen can after Will Allen. If Will Allen goes to PUP then Jason Allen plays the nickle.

Carroll is a special teams player from day 1. NOT a defensive player

Practice was in the bubble. So the reporters are right on top of the field inside the bubble.
