We need to keep Pennington, not only as a GREAT backup...but, possibly as our starter. Thru training camp thus far, Penny has looked much sharper than Henne.
QB's are targets and in this league you need 2 capable ones to succeed.
Love Hennes upside, but wins are what you are judged by and Pennington has done nothing but win.
Penny will not start unless Henne gets hurt, but he's a phenomenal backup! I compare it to the 1969 Colts (that Shula took to the Superbowl). Johnny Unitas was the backup QB on that team (I think Tom Matte was the starter).

I am torn on this, because I think Henne will shine this year, but he is still a pup, and although unlikely can struggle.
Pennington should remain our backup because he needs all the rest his little arm can carry lol...
I would love to start penny on my personal feelings, because he deserves it, and will out play Henne, because he is more polished, and accurate, but lacks the velocity, and range of throwing.
Either or, we will be a winning team this year. Like somone mentioned ealier, Marshall is accustomed to having weak armed QB's and shines in slot roll, and mid term recieving turning it into YAC.
So with the accuracy of Penny right now would prob be more effective with the addition of Marshall, than the arm strength of HENNE, BECAUSE i THINK THAT next year Henne will be 100 percent ready to do it all.
You can't really go wrong with both. Thigpen either he would have a solid year as well if he started, and I see him as a combination of both.
Let's see how Henne does up to the Bye week. If we're winning, then it may not matter. Marshall does well with weak armed QBs, but he also does well catching the ball when it's not perfectly accurate either. Penny's more accurate, but by how much? As for knowledge of the game, Penny can give Henne pointers the same way Strock did for Marino.

Oh come on. Tom Matte was a running back and emergency QB that played I think in one game. Johnny U was the QB and Earl the Pearl was the back-up. Earl started in the SB as Johnny U was injured. Johnny came in later in the game if my memory serves me right.
BTY I really do have a great memory, it's just a little short.

Ok, bad example. That was before my time anyway. Still, I think, at this point, Penny is more valuable to us analyzing from the sidelines and helping Henne than actually playing. He just doesn't have the arm or quickness to get us to the next level, but he has an amazing mind for football!
Pennington is NOT starting for the Miami Dolphins.
Pennington can look like Johnny Unitas in camp, he has NO CHANCE to start.
Period. End of story. End of debate.
P.S.....WTFL reported this morning that Minnesota has already stated they have no interest in Pennington. That IF Farve does retire they are happy with Jackson.

Unless I missed something, no one here said Pennington should start. I think we all agree that Henne is the starter. Penny will be a great backup. Thigpen is 3 and White is... well, seeee ya!
BTW Comcast News has it that Farve never sent a text to his team mates that he would retire. That is not true. Farve says he is still deciding.

Yes it was.
A good example would have been to point out that Earl Morrell was widely considered "washed up" when he was brought in as insurance for Bob Greise. We all know how utterly freakin' awesome that turned out.
We need Pennington on this team. I don't think that trading him to Minnesota would be that great of an idea, considering that we would end up with little depth at the position. It isn't like Pat White can play very well, and Thigpen is no better than a 3rd. string guy.

This is so true. Pennington, if anything, is the second coming of Earl the perl. White is for the most part a disaster. Maybe he can return punts?

No surprise. This is the Brett Farve we have come to know after turning his back on his Green Bay legacy. I don't wish injuries on players, but, when he does return, if Wake gives him a career ending hit, I'll likely be cheering.
Even if Penny was playing better (which is debatable at this time, some reporters are saying Henne is playing better) there is no way Penny starts over a healthy Henne. Pennington will not be around when we win our next Superbowl, Henne will (fingers crossed)
I wouldn't trade Penny to Minny simply because that trade could cost us a game this season. I'd much rather play Minny with Jackson under center than Chad. So the question I have for people here is would you rather keep Penny, save that 1 million dollars from trading him, or would you risk trading him to Minnesota and having to play him rather than QB Jackson(lol Q for a 3rd or 4th rounder. I say keep him.
I hope we don't trade Pennington. The staff has to produce this year and they know it. If we need to go to our backup then I think we would all feel comfortable with CP coming off the bench and we all know he can produce wins.
Earl Morral was the starter, and that only because Unitas had an injured elbow for much of the year. Tom Matte was a fullback. He's famous for starting one game as a QB, 'cause everybody else was hurt, and had to use a wristband with the plays written on it-which, by the way, is now in the HOF.
Dolfan Mike, or number one, Favre didnt really turn his back on the Packers they moved on without him, and shut the door, leaving him to retire, or go somwhere else.
Besides one of our own players I cant think of a better qb to take Marino's records, even if he is a flip flop, drama queen, the guy seems like a down to earth, cool azz country boy.

Or even a second.... or third.... or likely even a 4th. It won't be a value trade.
Anyone that actually thinks we're trading Penny to a team we play this season, while we don't really have a solid #2 QB, is living in a fantasy world. But it is real easy to talk about hypothetical situation that will never happen, just to make it look like you know something.

Im sorry DolpinfanMike, or I like to call "number one", but you ok? Youve been really harsh on all of us lately.
Just making sure you are ok, because man youve been going off.
