Hartline to return punts maybe
Posted by: MikeO ()

Hartline is working along with Bess on punt returns.

3 or 4 other guys are as well but none of them are probably going to make the team.

Would be interesting to see Hartline return punts, can't be worse than Bess

I really do hope Dallas cuts Patrick Crayton. Signing him would solve this problem and another at 4th or 5th WR as well.

They won't cut him before training camp ends, which means he would be hard to work into our team I think.

Crayton would be a great pickup for us. He's a solid player. Good returner, good receiver, tough player and obviously Parcells and Co have a history with him.

Would Crayton be better than Hartline no not at wide reciever or punt returner. Once again you guys want some one elses trash to be our treasure.

Crayton is not trash dude. That guy is a good player. He's just in a situation where he's the odd man out, doesn't make him trash.
Some teams are more stacked at certain positions than others.

I'm all for Hartline or anybody returning kicks or punts, may the best man win the job!

Hartline is a starter in Miami. Crayton can come here and compete with Camarillo for the 4th WR spot. Loser takes the 5th WR spot.

Crayton returns kicks from Day 1. Solves that problem

I think Hartline could be good at returning punts, didnt he do it a few times last year? Depending on how he plays opposite Marshall, if he earns the number 2 spot, you might not want to put him back taking shots. Maybe he is tough as nails, like Wes, go across the middle all day and take the shots of a returner. but I am not sure I want to find that out quite yet for Hartline. Let him fous on being a receiver this year IMO. Crayton at a reasonable price sounds like a good pick up as a returner and back up reciever. But not at the 2 or so million Dallas contract is paying him.

Why a reasonable price?? There is no salary cap.

Give him a 1 year deal and pay him. It doesn't matter how much he gets paid. Nobody is giving the guy more than a 1 year deal anyway.

Tell that to Ross. That money comes out of HIS pocket.

with all the money we have wasted in recent years, overpaying a little bit for Patrick Crayton in an UNCAPPED year is a drop in the bucket.

Please, nobody is saying pay him like Brandon Marshall!!!!

Camarillo is the starter as of now or is working with first team so I don't think he is fighting for the 5th spot. That would be Turner, TGM, Pruitt, Taurus and Moore....

IMO....If Crayton comes here it would be...

1 Marshall
2 Camarillo
2a Hartline
4 Crayton
4a Bess

With Bess and Crayton as slot receivers. PC works mainly in the slot in Dallas...(but Miles has been working there as of late in Dallas...another sign he may be going or just motivation to report to camp...looks like it worked)

Bess is our #3 WR.

I don't see Camarillo starting

Well he might start or he might be a #3 Bess is not Starting material as he is a slot reciever at best.

It's not crazy to think Marshall and Cam could start with Hartline playing the slot. I wouldn't be surprised.

I will take him as a PR, his #s the past few years are MUCH better than Teddy Gimp's or Bess

Hartline and Bess are pretty much tied up to start opposite Marshall. Pre season productivity is gonna decide who gets stuck in the slot.

Why? He was a fulltime starter 2 years ago. In fact, he lead the team in receiving for a bunch of games in our 11-win season. He should be fully recovered from his injury now. Bess has never been a fulltime starter. Cam is faster than Bess.

I think it's between Cam and Hartline to start. Bess is a slot guy. Nothing more.

This looks about right, but I don't see us paying a lot for Crayton. I think we may end up like this:

1 Marshall
2 Camarillo
3 Hartline
4 Bess
5 Grice-Mullen

OTA's are one thing. Training camp is another. The start of the season is another. I think Cam is seeing more reps with 1st team because they need to see more reps from him than Bess. I don't think its a die hard indication of who's got the #2 spot locked down for the season.

It's not, but there's no logical reason to just throw out the idea that it COULD happen. There have been NO indications that say Bess would be the starter opposite Marshall. With Marshall on board and all the injuries we sustained last season, I think last years' stats go out the window. But, if you must bring it up, you also have to include the drops and miscues that Bess had in the first half of the season.

When healthy, Cam has been a more reliable AND more production WR than Bess. That's a fact.

I am not going to disagree that the number 2 spot is between Cam and Hartline, but if Hartline wins the spot as I predict over Cam, Cam will not take over the slot in place of Bess. Camarillo is getting older and has not shown his abiltiy and speed is back up to pre knee injury. I like Camarillo, he is a fighter and a solid team player. I just think they look as Hartline and Bess as the future and Camarillo, as a savy veteran. All things equal, the youth get the call. SO unless Camarillo is just lights out speed, hands and routes, he is number 4 IMO. Also Bess is not known for his speed, but his quickness, the ability to create seperation fast with a quick move or 2 from line of scrimmage, not burn a guy on a fly route. But Bess is most likely our quickest reciever, which is why he will play the slot IMO.

We'll see what happens. Unless this knee injury permanently affects Cam's speed and lateral movement, I think he will give Bess a run for his money at slot. Remember the infamous reception by Cam in the 1-win season? That was across the middle. The same kinds of plays made by slot receivers. In fact, I think Cam WAS our #3/slot receiver that game. Maybe I'm wrong.
