Roth demands Cleveland to trade him
Posted by: MikeO ()
Date: May 17, 2010 07:26AM

Adam Schefter is reporting that Matt Roth demanded that the Browns trade him since they won't give him a long term deal.

If they cut him BRING HIM BACK!! (I know Miami won't, but I can dream)

First he lies to our team about his injury status, then THIS. I don't want Roth. He's obviously a trouble-maker. No amount of talent can make up for that.

So does this bit of news vindicate our FO a bit for how they handled him?

with the wife-beaters, drunks, roid users, and other misfits we have on our roster.....Roth's demanding a trade hardly puts him in the "trobule-maker" categroy

He's constantly knocking heads with coaches or the front office. Jeff George was a huge talent that didn't really have off-the-field issues, but his constant conflict with superiors ended is career.

Let me guess: Cleveland's FO is automatically, 100% at fault here, right?

I actually would take him back under the right terms, which would be low guarantee, heavy on incentives. But I'll bet another team which is much more desperate will take him.

You guys make it sound like Roth is the 1st player to ever ask for a long-term contract and get paid. eye rolling smiley

Brandon Marshall does it (now a Dolphin) and he is a GOD. Forgive and forget! No big deal.

Matt Roth does it (no longer a Dolphin) and he is a "trouble-maker"

Don't be hypocrites people!!!

What issue did he have with Miami?? THAT HE GOT HURT!!! Hardly an issue. The Fins had a bug up their ass that he didn't "tough it out and play through it" so they cut him. You make it sound like he was killing puppies or throwing hot pennies at kids. He got hurt for christ sakes.

Second, what "issue" is there in Cleveland? He asked for a long-term deal or trade him....in MAY!! He isn't holding out cause or causing issues. This what what the "offseason" is for. Getting this type of stuff sorted out!!! This is SOMETHING DAMN NEAR HALF THE PLAYERS IN THIS LEAGUE HAVE DONE IN THEIR CAREER!!!

If they cut him I'd love if we signed him (he'd right away be the best OLB on the team)--never happen of course.

He started 6 games in Cleveland and had 4 sacks. He would be Miami's best OLB from day 1. He would let us bring along Misi at a slower pace and not throw him to the wolves.

I can see Cleveland cutting him, but our front office will never bring him back. Too much "ego" involved on their part.

Brandon Marshall has only played on one team before Miami, so the precendence hasn't been fully set. Roth isn't a pro-bowler or anything, so I can't understand why he's pushing the issue like this. If he has half-a-brain he has to understand there's a stigma attached to him because of what happened here and making demands in Cleveland won't help that. The guy's got a major chip on his shoulder, and it's unfounded based on his career stats.

What? Judging him by sacks alone? Based on that Wake would be a MUCH better OLB than Roth.

That's probably true, but he may also be a distraction in the lockerroom and, at the same time, stifle Misi's development.

In this case, I think that's a good thing.

"with the wife-beaters, drunks, roid users, and other misfits we have on our roster.....Roth's demanding a trade hardly puts him in the "trobule-maker" categroy"

Congrats, you just described every single NFL roster.

"Brandon Marshall does it (now a Dolphin) and he is a GOD. Forgive and forget! No big deal.
Matt Roth does it (no longer a Dolphin) and he is a "trouble-maker"
Don't be hypocrites people!!!"

Every time I think you MIGHT have a clue of what you're talking about, you bring up some inane stat/fact/blurb such as this. Are you REALLY comparing these two?

"What issue did he have with Miami?? THAT HE GOT HURT!!! Hardly an issue. The Fins had a bug up their ass that he didn't "tough it out and play through it" so they cut him. You make it sound like he was killing puppies or throwing hot pennies at kids. He got hurt for christ sakes. "

MikeO, I visit a LOT of message boards on the internet. You are one of the most "special" posters among them all. If you truly believe that he was cut simply because he wouldn't play though an injury, and that there was nothing else going on was the ONLY reason he was cut, then I really don't know what to say to you.

Roth isn't coming back.

Well said TheFutt way to put Mike O is his place however I would take Roth back if he is healthy because you can't have too many good players on your team. roth is a good player when healthy and he would be an upgrade over the departed Jason Taylor. For those of you who don't beleive Roth would be an upgrade take this into consideration. Roth is younger, bigger, and faster than J.T. is at this point in his career now so yes I would welcome roth back if he is healthy and hit the waiver wire.

1) Nobody said Roth is coming back. I think that was made clear in EVERY post in this thread. Try and follow along.

2) For "not knowing what to say" you sure as heck did spew a lot of "nonsense" in that above post

3) You have no proof that Roth is a trouble-maker. To label him as such is just laughable on your part.

I am lost....What exactly has Roth done to make everyone believe he would be our best LB? Because he is bigger and younger than JT? So is half the DE in the legue and most of them will never see the HOF. JT will. I could care less if he comes back or not. I haven't seen anything that would convince me that he is a problem but I haven't seen anything that would convince me that he is stellar either.

What do you mean, "you have no proof that Roth is a trouble maker". He ticked off our front office to the point that they dangled him as trade bait.

NOBODY BIT.

He gets picked up by Cleveland, has a mediocre season, and then demands a long term contract.

Look, I'll admit you can't call him a trouble maker OR innocent, but there is obviously SOMETHING going on with this guy. The Browns came right out and said they aren't going to give in to his demands.

MikeO, I know you mean well. I know you love the Dolphins (despite the claims you favor other AFC East teams, and I don't buy that one bit.)

I like the direction you go in a lot of your posts but man...sometimes you just are...wack.

First, Miami never dangled him as trade bait. When did this happen?? There is no proof of that. Let's say I play along, ok they dangled him and nobody bit....maybe its because why would anyone trade for a player that they know will be cut. It's the same reason we can't trade Smiley!

And he wasn't medicore in Cleveland. Look at the stats for the games he played with them.

And I don't favor other AFC East teams and I respect you for saying what you said. I (as you do I feel) live in reality, something "some" people here (not you, talking about others) can't do. If you can't recogonize the greatness that is Tom Brady or say the jets defense was #1 last year and is on paper better than Miami's heading into this yaer.....i mean get a clue! That isn't a knock on the Fins, that is living in reality and being honest with the situation at hand. It's like if you give any credit to the Jets, Bills, or Pats its a mortal sin. I won't mention names but I think we have a couple 13 year old pimple faced kids in their parents basement who get CPU access after their homework is done and they come here and well....act like 13 year olds and are unable to cary an adult level football conversation.

Why would we want to sign that alligator armed gimp?

Really, I don't get the Matt Roth hype. He is only an average OLB with a chip on his shoulder - and injury prone to boot.

Just bantering, Rosenhaus probably put him up to it.

If not Roth may just be diselusioned and trying the same antics. As stated, doubt he has a lot of leverage, and the team (Browns ) deserve to see him perform before he really gets any leverage.

Bottom line ... not our porblem anymore, and he won't likely be pursued by Miami even if he was available.
