Any RB you would draft that would be in the realm of talent that we'd want would require a fairly expensive contract over multiple years. We can't sign someone like that then take the approach that we'll possibly cut them in the preseason due to where they perform on the roster RB list.
Well, I have to say Marshall isn't enough all by himself and he does not fix our offense. Even with him it won't be a good enough group (as a whole) to compete on equal terms with the top 7-10 offenses in the league...I would not have drafted a RB or TE this year either because I think our current group is good enough and deep enough to get us through another season. But, I disagree with those who think we shouldn't be trying to upgrade Bess, Turner and Camarillo when we get the chance...there were those chances in this draft with two or three players we had the chance to add to the roster.
Our offense needs ANOTHER, younger, Brandon Marshall type WR to compliment the original.
Adding to the defense was critical for us and we did that, but we missed on the players we really wanted...no one will convince me otherwise, because we got too cute with trying to out think our competition.
Marshall opens everything up, teams wont be able to stack the box so our running game will be better, wont be able to double the TE so that position will be better, same for the other WRs. Pretty basic football 101 here guys
Eh, I'm convinced based on what I saw last year that a roster of Marshall, Bess, and Hartline will see us in the top 10 passing offenses if things go well with other areas like blocking and the run game(play action setup).

Along with a healthy Ronnie. And a better and healthier O-LINE. Plus a QB who has gone through the NFL loop once already

RESPONSE: Normally, you'd be right. I see the necessity of keeping a running game of high enough caliber to keep pressure off Henne as worth it.

Ok, lets continue on that. You're going to go into the season with Brown, Williams, and lets say good rb X. That's 3 starting level backs on the same team, getting paid quite a bit each, sharing the load. Someone isn't going to be happy with the amount of touches they get, and Ross isn't going to be happy he's paying so much for one position. That's me playing devils advocate. Just for the record, I understand your points fully.
I guess I'm just kinda shaky on whether Ronnie and Ricky will be here next year in the same way and strength they were before Ronnie got hurt last year.
Based on what kind of injury it was, I wouldn't worry about Ronnie's treads. It's not the same as if say, he torn up a knee. The speed will still be there. As for Ricky, well, all I can do is go by what he's been saying to the media. On SportsNation he was promoting his 30 for 30 and said he felt great and 100 percent.

RESPONSE: As I've put on this board many times, I have no faith that the Ronnie-Ricky combo we had last year will be here in the same strength this year.
Well, let's assume that come September, they are.
Who would I have drafted, Jahvid Best, when available and Toby Gerhardt, when available. (We could not have drafted Spiller, he was gone before our pick).
So let's say we go in with Ronnie and Ricky and either one of them, then one of our subs goes, depending on whether we got Jahvid, the smallish speedy back or Gerhardt, the pounder.
But then also understand Chyren that by taking one of those backs you're also leaving a glaring hole that needed to be filled by not selecting someone we ended up picking. Fact was our Guard position was extremely shallow, so much that Kiper had it as a need on our chart. Same with OLB and our defensive backfield.

You have 4 linebackers on the field at one time with this defensive scheme. That means 1 backup per spot, just as a rule of thumb. We'll carry 6-8 on the roster. Compare that to the RB position.

RESPONSE: And you get ALL OF THAT in the draft...at the expense of other needs (therein lies the difference but PhinFans2 asked my opinion).
