Just thinking. White could hang on as the 3rd QB for a few weeks, but he'd be gone once Pennington was cleared to play. On the other hand, it's obviously been noted that White could be more valuable listed as a WR than a QB. With Ginn gone, here's our lineup at WR:
Marshall
Hartline
Bess
Camarillo
Turner
If Turner truly turns out to be a bust, White may have a chance of staying on as a WR. Given a year of development at that position, he may turn out to be a decent option. Put him on the field in 3rd down situations (ala Jim Jensen) and he could be a real asset!
I am willing to bet that we don't even look at a WR this year unless its a 6th rounder or later.
We will only carry 4 on the active roster....Marshall, Hartline, Bess and a battle between Turner and Camarillo.
The other two spots to make 6 on the 53 man roster will be between the loser of that battle and Julius Pruitt, Ryan Grice-Mullen & Taurus Johnson and any undrafted guys or 6th round or later guys.
I don't really see a spot for White unless he can beat out Turner or Cam. I think we continue to develop him at QB and WR and try and show his improvement in the preseason and then TRY and unload him for a late round 2011 pick.
There was a report the other day that White will stay the #2 QB. So he can come in and run the spread offense/wildcat a few times a game. Thigpen will be the #3. Pennington on PUP I guess.
It would be nice to be able to list White at another position and not as the #2 QB. But lots of time to figure all this stuff out
I don’t get the talk about White transforming into a WR. What prior productive experience does he have in a similar role? The answer is none from what I can determine. At this point White is about 85% bust certified IMO. The guy literally looked like a boy among men last year…
I dont get why people are so enamored with moving white to reciever, he NEVER PLAYED THE POSITION. Also he ran a 4.55 forty, while this is blazing fast for a qb this is a bit below average for reciever. FOr comparison brian hartline is no speedster and he ran a 4.52 forty at the combines, now think about corners that 80-90% of them typically run between 4.3-4.4 forties and you will realize that people need to kill the pat white talk at reciever...
Again he is not blazing fast by reciever stance, on top of that do you really think that he has run a route tree? what you think that he is ungaurdable? do you think he will be streaking down field like ted ginn who was projected to run in the 4.3's? he is a quarterback so lets leave it at that...

There have been quite a few college QBs that converted to WR successfully. The advantage of having played QB is that you have a good understanding of the play, how to read the defense, and, hence, how to get open. It's a critical skill on 3rd down, when passing plays are often improvised. Jim Jensen made a career out of exploiting that.
And that begs the question...why did we draft Pat White? We certainly should prefer to have Henne on the field most of the time.
He was effective in college at running the spread offense. But, I am not sure how that translates to the NFL in this run first offense.
Getting Brandon Marshall should only help the power run game. Giving Pat White the occassional rep could be effective when the offense is sputtering...But, ideally White needs to be on the field more often if to live up to his high draft status.
Getting White involved in the receiving game should be on the table.
Yet, I still see our biggest need on offense to be a talented receiving TE. We shall draft one and Patrick Turner gets a legit chance to make this team.

Funny you should mention TE and Turner in the same sentence. I still say with Turner's size and (lack of) speed, he should consider converting to TE. Ok..maybe I'm just crazy.

Depending on his pre-season performances, maybe sooner than that

RESPONSE: I missed that. LIKE YOU MISSED THE SPELLING OF GABRIL'S name.
But might I assume that you are copping to being one of the Parcells and Sparano suck ups?
No, I don't quite pay attention to roster moves in the off season and I did miss that we had gotten rid of Gabril Wilson.
I equated the two. Obviously you and Crowder52 think that one sin is bigger than the other. My point was that the two sins are equal. But you guys want to play "Teacher got it wrong."
But nonetheless, it does not detract from my point that to trade Ted Ginn for a 5th round draft choice is insane and if its only Pat White that we still have rather than Pat White and Gabril Wilson, then it is still stupid.
But, of course, it is you guys who sidetracked the argument into whether or not one should KNOW that Gabril or Gibril, it seems that both spellings have been recorded, has been cut.

Cheers to you too, Crowder52, but it is a little unfair to speak in terms of me calling someone out. I was simply saying everyone makes mistakes. That hardly seems aggressive. Below is my exact post concerning the alleged misspelling.

I got no hard feelings Chyren, I honestly thought it was a Joke, cause it didnt make sense. No big deal, I make my share of mistakes, wasnt trying to pick on you, I noticed that his name is spellend Gabril all over the internet. I mispell constantly on this site, Cheers sorry for the misunderstanding
Hey no worries BobH, I'm sure if Gibril Wilson played on the 72 dolphins or Purdue in the 1960s you'd have been all over the correct spelling and whether or not he had been cut!
