He was not given the opportunity to do anything but return kicks for three years. He was an undrafted, raw, small school prospect, with sub 4.3 speed, who, with his first opportunity, put up over 1300 yards and 11 TD's. His first start he grabbed 10 catches for 250 yards. I don't know many one year wonders who put up those kinds of numbers.

I'd rather have Dez Bryant and our high pick in the 1st and 3d than Miles Austin. He had one great 1/2 season in his career. I'm not ready to declare he's a legit #1.

Also why would Dallas do this? They could just sign Marshall to an offer sheet if they wanted to.

Problem is, our high pick in the 1st would go to get Dez.....can't have both.

you're right, I misspoke--rather have Dez at 12 and out high pick in the 3d than Austin and a lower 3d. Just not convinced Austin is going to continue his excellent last half of 2009, and I think Dez has a better than 50% chance of being top 3 receiver in the league

This isn't even a rumor. It's something a columnist suggested because the Cowboys are having Bryant come to a workout, and the columnist doesn't think that Bryant could last to the Cowboys' pick, so some trade must be in the works. It's based on a bad assumption. Number one, you do your due diligence researching prospects because you just never know who is going to fall to you. And when a prospect carries a lot of baggage, that prospect can drop a lot further than anyone thinks. In his latest mock, Pat Kirwan has Bryant lasting until #29 because of the baggage he brings. It's not a slam dunk that Bryant will not last to the Cowboys. So, they are checking him out. And there's another bad assumption here. Who says Parcells is going to want to pay Miles Austin a big contract based on his one good year? Yes, Parcells and Ireland brought this guy into the league. But, do the Fins, who had one of the highest payrolls in the league last year, want to shell out the huge financial commitment it would take to get Austin? It's not just about picks here. Austin is a free agent.

That's not realistic. Dallas would never do that.

I was thinking about that crazyness today Daytona, this one didn't make sense in that Dallas would give up Austin to get Bryant, I could see them trying this with Roy Williams, but why give up Miles?

Drivel?!?

Wow what a bunch of crap. You dismiss this concept with a categorical slag like you know so much better?

The trade value chart was established by Jimmy Johnson and was immediately adopted league wide as a valid method to measure trades of draft picks.

We are drafting football players. Who say when a player should be drafted? Values are attributed to players and picks.

Players are payed by their slotting.

When a trade involves both players and picks they ascribe a theoretical draft pick value to that player. This is how it is done.

Drivel? learn something before you dismiss people in an insulting manner.

Who is that post directed at, Realist?

I am not sure what the drivel means or who that is directed at.

Yeah it makes zero sense. David Hyde was just brainstorming out loud and it was a silly brainstorm at that

I would only make that deal if they sent us Austin the 27th and their 3rd.

Excuses are tools of the incompetent...those who specialize in them rarely specialize in anythine else

I could definitley see Jones wanting to move up but not giving up Austin, but you never know. He would want to give us Roy Williams!
Austin is better than what we have but I would rather have Golden Tate and a second. Jones knows they are close so he might give up a second to move up.

Would be nice ... as we could likely deal with both the NT/DL or LB need in rd 1 and and also fill a proven WR.

We need to do something creative and havw more holes in the dike than fingers.
