RESPONSE: I've been steeped in March Madness. But I just happened to be looking at the NFL Network last night and they just happened to be looking at what they think the Dolphins will do.
They had us taking a running back at no. 12. Dated May 24th, 2010.
I put that video on this site. They didn't have us taking a RB. They went through the WR's and DT's that we will probably take. They said at the end don't be surprised if we took a "big play" RB like Spiller, but they didn't say we will do it. Or have us on paper doing it
Its likely SPILLER is on the board... take him #12 - I'm sure the offers would come pouring in. Maybe another team makes a deal...
Maybe we keep Spiller to acquire those CHUNK YARDS we so desperately desire.
Would I be surprised if we took a RB with our 12th pick? Yes, I would. Would I be shocked, considering recent events? No, probably not. I would be seriously disappointed in our FO if we did, that's for sure.
Odenn and Mikeo, our running back situation is not Great. It is not Good. It is tenuous at best. As another poster stated above, if we don't have a running game,we have no passing game and if you think we were bad last year, just wait and see.
You guys seem to see a nearly perfect team with just a smudge spot at linebacker. You don't realize that what little we have at running back.
You guys think that our backups can compare with the top RBs in the draft.
Come on folks, I may be a little tongue-in-cheek about Jahvid Best but you are honestly delusional if you think we are so great at running back that it would be silly to draft one.
To say that we should pass on the next Derrick Thomas to take a running back is okay.
But to say, "Hey, we got NOTHING to worry about at running back," is frankly the kind of reasoning I would expect to hear out of a 12 year old kid.
I dont think anyone is saying we're set at RB, were just saying we have bigger needs right now to fix. The RB situation is decent enough to wait till next year or address late in the draft, can that be said about other spots?
Maybe we should look at which RBs are on the board in the mid-second.
SPILLER BEST MATHEWS are gone... my next favorite is MONTARIO HARDESTY with TATE close behind. TOBY GERHART is no SPILLER, his style of running is more what we're use to. DWYER and McCLUSTER get honorable mentions.
If you wanna wait around till the 3rd, there'll be a decent RB sitting there...
so will OLB DAKOTA WATSON, NT TORREL TROUP, FS MORGAN BURNETT, WR CARLTON MITCHELL, TE TIM TEBOW.
I have to agree that our running back situation is good enough right now (barring further injuries of course) to get us through another season. The way I see it we badly need a WR, S, OLB, and NT and we need to get those guys while the getting is good.
Brown is proven and he is good...jury is out on his injury recovery though.
Williams is proven and he is more than good enough as a #2/#1 in a pinch.
Cobbs is good enough to carry the load if his injury is healed fully.
Hilliard is also good enough to rely on for a temporary basis anyway.
I would only take a flier on a RB if someone really good dropped into the third or fourth round...don't see it though.
2011 is the year to look at upgrades to our starting RB and further upgrades to our WR (providing we take one this year that pans out), LB, CB and S's
Then 2012 we start over with youth and depth at OL and DL thereby restocking the heart of the team.

If we take a RB in the mid-second its just as bad as taking one in Rd 1. It's a wasted pick too high in the draft. We don't need to draft a RB at all. And any RB we take before Rd 6 or 7 would be a wasted pick in my opinion.
We have too many guys in that position as there is, why add another guy into the mix. It makes zero sense.
