I don't agree. Smiley's leadership 2 years ago was huge! He was a great mentor to Jake Long. I think he was a success just for that.
I don't think the Dolphins have much loyalty to individuals, aside from a select few, and even then that loyalty is more locked in because of the contract or the fact they have no other options. I think in this FO's world, your best attainable position as far as your status with the team is concerned is "you're the starter, unless something better comes along". It seems cold and callus, but hey, that's today's NFL.

No team has any loyalty to anyone. It's a business

Reports are Smiley is "damaged goods" at this point. I am thinking we get a 5th rounder.
Lions acquired OG Rob Sims from the Seahawks in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice.
Sims, 26, will likely move into the Lions' starting lineup immediately at left guard. Though somewhat injury prone, Sims has racked up 31 starts over the last three seasons and is a low-risk acquisition because he's only under contract through 2010 at a mere $1.176 million. 2009 LGs Manuel Ramirez and Daniel Loper may now be left fighting for one roster spot in Detroit.

"The Seattle Seahawks have traded guard Rob Sims to the Detroit Lions for defensive end Robert Henderson.
The deal was announced by the Seahawks on Monday. The teams also swapped draft picks with Seattle getting Detroit's fifth-round pick (133rd overall) in this month's draft, and the Lions getting the first of Seattle's two seventh-round picks (213th overall)."

Exactly right. If not and we keep him we have shown him a rather crappy form of disrespect. Do not like the tactics I'm seeing in player negotiations, with existing or prospective players.
