The weird part is that for the past two years he was also thrown at more than every safety in the NFL...two years in a row. 77 times in 08 and 61 in 09.

In 2008, he had a 4.2 rating in coverage and -2.4 vs the run.

In 2009 he had a -3.0 rating in coverage and 3.1 vs the run.

Gibril Wilson had a .7 rating in coverage and 2.6 vs the run.

In 2008 Renaldo Hill had a -6.2 rating in coverage and 3.3 vs the run.

I have always liked Bell. He is a good player. Not great but a good guy to have on our team.

We are really just a FS away and maybe another full year of experience for Vonte/Smith away from having an outstanding secondary

bell could be even more dominate if miami had a cover FS to help Bell in pass defense. a good FS would hide some of bell's deficiency in coverage and let Bell tackle and not shoulder as much of a burden in the passing game. this is more evidence to why miami should draft berry or thomas. the secondary would be a force instead of a weakness in a season or two with the development of the young players

Let's say we have the option of Dez Bryant/Golden Tate -vs- Thomas/Berry, who would make more of an impact compared to who we currently have?

You can argue we can "get by" with the WRs we our current WR corp, but we'll still have problems scoring and keeping drives alive. Ginn isn't clutch, and the other guys we have struggle to get separation from the secondary.

You can argue that Nolan did a decent job with the secondary in Denver (with not much talent at safety). It's not crazy to think a CB can convert to FS (heck, if you want coverage skills...there you go!). We also still have Clemons, Culver, and Jason Allen who have all played FS. Will they be good enough? Will the addition of Dansby make all the difference allowing the safeties to stay back rather than come up in run support?

I really don't know the answer, but I'd be fine if we drafted any of these guys in the first round.

no doubt Bell is a good tackler , but when everyone on the D was missing tackles last year it padded his stats some, dont ya think?

I'll say it again profootball focus is a very skewed way of comparing players, stats aren't very accurate for the game of Football.

These figures tell me that while Bell isn't a great cover man, he tackles very well and hits like a truck. Isn't that the job description of the better SS's in the league?

How did those stats show that he "hits like a truck"?

Sorry-I took a little poetic license. The stats show he is an effective tackler, and safeties are historically hard hitters. Watching him, I believe he is one.

You are hard to understand. You write very similar to MiamiThunder.

Bell is a good safety I thought he was on the verge of all pro right before his injury.

He IS and All Pro. Didn't he play in the Pro Bowl just this year?

lets face the truth here about the pro bowl tho, its as much a popularity contest as it is about being skilled players will get voted in because of who they are just as quickly as how much talent they have. Then most of them get "hurt" and drop out or now if there in the super bowl they dont have to play. its really quite a joke

And I think Bell was in the pro bowl as well cause he was the hometown guy. They didn't have to fly him in or put him up in a hotel either.

I don't even remember, he was a 2nd or 3rd alternate. Not knocking Bell but Im not even sure if he makes the pro bowl last year if the game isn't held in Miami.

idk taht locatioon would effect it, its a nationwide vote, and they knew days in advance he would be the player, he was just a few people down the list and all the safeties ahead of him didnt play.

well yeah but you have people who finish second and 3rd and so on in the voting order you would think they would just go by that to pick the alternates. otherwise why wouldnt have more dolphins been selected as alternates?

beacuse no dolphins were really worthy off our 7-9 team.

Im not sure how they pick the alternates, but Bell was added so last minute it wouldn't shocked me if one of the factors of him being picked was the location of the game

it very well could be, you might be right, but it seems like given time they would use the voting order from the pro bowl votes to pick an alt.

Well, if you know anything about the game, you'd know Bell plays(as stated in the article) STRONG safety. If you watched the games, you'd know that on running downs they bring him up to the LOS to play as another linebacker. You do that with your hardest hitting DB, so its logical to assume he hits particularly hard. Poetic license to describe it as "hitting like a truck", but it is an accurate statement.

I don't think the NFL is too worried about the cost of a plane ticket.
