ChyrenB: No, I wold not cut Thigpen in favor of Pennington...we have a definate use for both players.

Phinjim: White is athletic and while he has not wowed anyone in the pro's yet he does have nice highlights from college that showcase this athletisim. He can run, and while I don't know for sure, maybe he can catch well enough to be usefull as a WR.

My line of thinking is this...we spent a 2nd round pick on him. This alone means that the coaches need to get him on the field as much as possble. We should not sacrafice the development of Henne or the comfort of Thigpen as our #2 quarterback by rushing White in at the quarterback position so he must play somewhere else while he learns.

Pennington will be the #3 guy for us and while we have him he should be used to teach White how to play the position as well as helping Henne and Thigpen become better. We have to get some value from White just like we will be getting value from bringing Pennington back as a teacher.

The value from White in the short term comes from getting him on the field as much as possible. The only possible positions for this are RB, WR, KR or PR. Can he do these? Who knows but his skill set "suggests" that he can.

I just don't understand why so many people are rushing to trade or cut him when he has not had an oppotunity to learn and showcase his ability. The only people that know what the plan for him actually was/is are the coaches and they are not telling that plan. One season as a part time player does not make him a bust...to me anyway.

Thigpen and Pennington are here for two different but slightly overlapping needs.

1. Penny - mentor, coach, backup as needed mid season on this year.
2. Thigpen - Backup, future
3. White - You got me, maybe to avoid admitting you threw away a 2nd

Here's what I believe will happen.

Pat White will get lots of playing time in the preseason. If he does well he will be traded. If not he will be cut. The other guys, Thigpen and CP don't need that time. They can play without it and have proven that.
I think White will eventually be traded for much less than the #2. That was a mistake.sad smiley

Speaking of Shula:

Anybody get a chance to see the replay of Fins vs. Pats 1994 last night (direct TV NFL channel).

What a treat to watch Marino again.

BTW - Guess who was coaching the Pats - you got it Bill Parcells.

Fins won in a shoot out. Great game.
