what do you think of this guy? he may be around in rd 2--would you want him? I think the buzz is miami likes him and he can run the wildcat too. personally I'm a bit wary of Mississippi rbs after john avery, but he could be a reggie bush type of the backfield
didn't we just WASTE a 2nd round pick on a guy to run the wildcat.
How many "gimmick" players are we gonna draft to run the wildcat a few plays a game. Seriously. We have a FRANCHISE QB !!! Start drafting REAL WR's who can play.
Henne will win us a super bowl. No gimmick WILDCAT!
in fairness, mccluster is a rb and also can catch, with blazing speed. unlike white, he would not be brought in as a gimmick/wildcat player. he could play that role too but would be an immediate contributer in the base offense too

RB is not our most pressing need. I wouldn't want to spend a 2nd rounder for 1.
I was impressed with McCluster this year vs. UT. Personally, I think he is the best back in the draft this year. Very similar to Spiller but more durable. I also like the idea of getting Dwyer (GT) for wildcat depth. However, McCluster has great hands, that is the big advantage over Dwyer
I like McCluster. But it seems as if the Trifecta went against the grain last year with a different type of player than they usually like....Pat White. They normally like the big, strong, tough & fast type players. But with the White pick....they failed. I would much rather see them stick to their "type" player than too reach for a different one.
I hated the idea of picking Pat White. I thought it was the worst decision this regimen had made at the time of drafting him. That being said, I think McCluster is a play maker that can make this team that much better. He is going to be a chris johnson type.
The one time McCluster got hit square in the Senior Bowl, he coughed up the ball. At his size, any solid hit is a threat to end his season. If you are looking for an explosive RB that badly, just take Cj Spiller in the first round. Because of his size, McCluster is a gimmick player. He's too small to carry the load as a RB, and he's too small to get off the jam as a WR. He might fit on some other team, but we don't have enought talented players on offense to afford spending a high pick on a gimmick guy.
I agree that we already took a chance on White. But he was a rookie at QB...even 1st round guys need some time. White got very few reps since the team was game planning with Pennington and grooming Henne.
It is possible that both White and Turner prove to be worth their picks in the end.
But here is what I was wondering....
what if we had White At QB, Ginn, McCluster, and Bess at WR with Ronnie and a TE on the field? That combination of speed by Gin, speed and quickness by McCluster, quickness by Bess, and the ability of white and Ronnie to run and throw?
Sulphur, Charcoal, and Potassium Nitrate on their own are dirty, smelly, and impotent...put them together and they are explosive.
How does a team cover that formation?
if we trade for Boldin or sign a FA WR...drafting McCluster might be worth the risk.
Guys, it's called change-of-pace back! McCluster is a player that knows how to play in space and knows how to not get rocked by huge players ala Wes Welker, Darren Sproles, and Mike Turner.

Sproles and Welker each outweigh him by over 20 lbs. And Turner outweighs him by 80.
Spiller is only 195 lbs. He is not an inside the tackles type runner. He'd make a heck of a orbit in our wildcat though. Weak RB draft IMO. Did any of you see Ryan Mathews from Fresno St. play last year? He put up some crazy numbers last year.

McCluster has great hands, blazing speed and can make people miss in the open field. I don't think we're utilizing White with his overall package. He's not playing QB in the leauge. We need to get the ball in his hands and allow him to make plays. I would take McCluster if still available. If need be, We can trade PW.
From what I read, he is blazing fast and an awesome college player. I also remember that we have drafted several players with blazing speed afraid of contact. Ginn, and if you want to go back a ways, John Avery. Both of those guys were so fast they didn't get hit much in college, but when they got to the pros, the speed was higher and the contact was 10X what they were used to in college. They were so afraid of contact in the NFL that they never did much. Yes he is an intriguing possibility, but he is the ultimate boom/bust player.
I know we need playmakers, but I think we can't afford another luxury pick that seems a lot like Pat White type of pick. I think he will probably go in the second, but I would rather see us get either Nate Allen (S) or Terrance Cody (NT) if they are available.
