If they beat Jax it concretely helps our playoff chances, but takes them one win closer to a perfect record.

I'm rooting for the colts. I know BobH is rooting for Jax. Anyone else have an opinion?

If we win out, I don't think Jacksonville winning out will affect our playoff status.

If Jax wins out and Baltimore loses one, we win the head to head tiebreaker with Jax.

If Jax wins out and Baltimore wins out, Jax goes ahead of both of us.

If Jax loses one and Baltimore wins out, Baltimore goes ahead of us.

Baltimore is the key. They have to lose before we can get into the wildcard spot. If NE loses to Buffalo, we're in the AFC East lead.

My mistake. You're right. Jax only has three conference losses right now so we DO need them to lose another.

Here's to a loss tomorrow night! drinking smiley

I hope the colts loss.

The reason is the pats, and ravens play three more, the jags two more.

Thats 8 tries for a loss and we only need one of these teams to lose one more game and we are in if we run the table. I like those odds.

However ind has to loss or they my have the perfect season. We cant have that!

Ok, so I just re-read the tie breaking procedures. Assuming we win out...

If Baltimore loses and Jax wins out, there's a two way tie that goes to us b/c the first tiebreak is head to head, right?

Therefore we don't need Jax to lose any games.

I know it doesn't really matter right now but at least it's nice being able to have a discussion like this so late in the season.

Since Baltimore is ahead of us in the two way tie break, that would mean they'd have to lose two of the last three. looking at their remaining schedule (Bears, Steelers, and Raiders), that ain't gonna happen.

I think our best shot is to win the division.

I don't see the Jets losing. If we win out. And I do think NE will lose one more. I thinK Houston with Andre Johnson lights up that horrible New England secondary in a couple weeks .

RESPONSE: I'll tell you who I'm REALLY rooting for if you will admit how stupid you were the week before by asking whether I wanted THE REDSKINS OR THE SAINTS TO WIN even though it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DOLPHINS' PLAYOFFS CHANCES.

RESPONSE: Your concession was wrong. We beat Jacksonville. If we are tied with them AND ONLY THEM, head to head competition rules and we win out. The only way that Jacksonville goes ahead of us is if there is a multi-team tie.

So your original statement was right that Berkeley was making a very nearly silly hypothetical, not as silly as his "Would you want New Orleans to lose if it meant we would not make the playoffs" question.

I'm still laughing at that one.

not getting into this with you again, BobH. if you can't/won't understand my point from this week and last, I could care less.

it is indisputable that a loss by Jax tomorrow night HELPS the phins playoff chances. A loss by the colts does not. Logic dictates that the colts winning is a GOOD thing for the 2009 phins playoff chances.

it's OK if you don't understand that either. we're used to it by now.

Actually (R/J) is right, it's a win-win situation.

Moreover, what about the fact that Jacksonville will be playing New England soon?

Who are you going to root for then, Berkeley223, assuming that Jacksonville beats Indy?

Oh, I forgot, you are berkeley with a little B.

if Jax beats Indy, I'll root for any team playing a team whose loss helps miami, an I'll root for NO to lose since they don't play any such team.

Jax doesn't matter to us. If they win out, then NE loses and we're in (if we win out). If Jax loses to NE, then they're out of it.

Forgetting about Baltimore and the Jets??? If we only go 2-1 over the next three games, that would mean the Jets also have to lose one AND Baltimore would have to go 1-2.

That said, if we lose one we're out.

Here's hoping the Pats collapse and we win the division. I think that's more likely right now than baltimore losing a single game.

We just gotta take care of business and win Ten, then move on and hope everyone around us loses.

Hey its not like we were going far in the playoffs even if we got there at full strengh. Now after all the injuries we have a much lesser chance to win even 1 game in the playoffs...

In other words GO JACKSONVILLE.........

Kick the colts butt.

I would rather win the division and have a home playoff game. At least hen we have a chance

If we are the 6 seed, the though of going to New England in the snow and losing or going to Cincy in the cold and losing isn't a site I want to see.

Nothing gained this season by wanting Colts to lose and a lot gained by our competitors for the Division or wild card.

Thus if colts go all the way ... more power to them, its a lot harder once the playoff start (as NE found out).

Thus Colts winning against all playoff competitors of the Fins.

Colts then losing to us in the AFC championship we edge out NO in the SB.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Jacksonville with a possible upset in the making? noooooooooooo

31-28 for Jacksonville start of the 4th Q.

It almost means nothing if we are supposed to win out to make the playoffs anyway right?

I guess it's still better to have Jacksonville lose just in case the other teams have a slip up as well.

Yes but if both Jack and Miami win out we have the tiebreaker over the Jags as we beat them last week.
So Jack does not need to lose a game I think Balt does because in the event of the 3 way tie Miami loses right?

If Balt and Miami both win out and Jack loses who would have the tiebreaker there?
