At the moment, Jacksonville is the #2 wildcard team. Baltimore is 3rd, and we are 4th. Jacksonville is 6-3 in the conference, so they have the edge right now. Even if we win out, we do not control our own destiny. We need Jacksonville and Baltimore to each lose one more. Baltimore has an easy schedule, so they are the favorites right now.

I just realized Jax plays NE, so both teams can't win out. So, if we can get Baltimore out of the way and win out, we'll be in the playoffs. If Jax beats NE, then we win the AFC East. If NE beats Jax, then we're in over them.

So, we NEED to root for a Baltimore loss!!

I'll be rooting for Jacksonville in that game because I think they have a loss coming against Indy so assuming they beat the Browns and possibly upset the Pats they could finish at 9-7 and if we win out or even tie Jacksonville at 9-7 we win the tiebreaker as long as there is no 3 way tie right? guess it depends who it is....

But your right we need Baltimore the hell out of there and it's smooth sailing as long as we're winning.
Can Chicago hand them a loss? very possible I guess......
Maybe Pittsburgh will be healthier in 2 weeks and can take a game from them but that would also mean they will be competitive for us too the following week.

I look at Baltimore's schedule and then New England's and I think New England has a better shot at losing a game or 2 then Baltimore does.
Maybe the division will be how we get in.cool smiley

Assuming we in out

We need a Baltimore or NE loss and we are in.

One loss and we are done.

We just need a Baltimore loss. Jacksonville has the tie breaker if its a 3 way or more tie. Miami has the tie breaker over Jacksonville if it's 2 teams.

Only problem is that now indy is saying they'll be resting starters. Even so they have the NE game and one of our competitors gets pushed back.

Not sure if we beat Pats in the tiebreak if they lost to JAX and we win out.

The NFL Redzone guys following the game yesterday said that with our win ove jax that we were in 6th place now and off of the "In The Hunt" list. Which made since to me at the time. You guys are saying though that Jax is still on the list. I don't see how they could be.

If Denver wins out, they get the first wild-card at 11-5. This is assuming that San Diego doesn't choke away their two-game division lead.

If Miami, Jacksonville, Baltimore, and the jests win out (possible, since none of them play each other) to finish 10-6, and assuming New England wins the division by winning out:

First you'd have to settle the division tie, which eliminates the jests. (Ooo, I like that. Say it again -- the jests are ELIMINATED!) Then Jacksonville gets the wild-card spot thanks to conference record (9-3, vs. 8-4 for the other two).

This doesn't mean Jacksonville controls its own destiny. If Baltimore loses a game and Miami and Jacksonville win out, then Miami takes the wild-card spot thanks to their head-to-head win over the Jags. Actually, none of the current 7-6 AFC teams controls its own destiny. Baltimore could win out and have the tiebreaker edge over Miami (common opponents) but lose it to Jacksonville (conference record).

Jacksonville and NE can't both win out since they play each other. Is the game in NE or Jax?

Oops! It's in New England -- probably a Jacksonville loss. But then if the Jags do win that game, Miami gets the division by winning out (conference-record tiebreaker).

Because in the case of a 3 way tie, head to head outcomes are off the board and other critera becomes involved

You look at the competition's schedules for the year, and the last three games it makes you want to pull your hair out.

If Denver loses to Phila, we could end up with the same record, but because they play the bottom of the league they'll be going on to the playoffs.

Same goes for Baltimore, Pitt and Cinci swapped surprisingly, but overall they had a cake walk.

I am still taking it "one game at a time" but it certainly is nice to have two years running of having this conversation. It is starting to feel like the phins of old. Still, we are too inconsistent and I can't look ahead. I also think we are playing dangerous teams. CJ is inhuman. Andre Johnson is one of the best (and we have never beaten Houston). Is there a chance Polamalu will be back? If so, that will make Pitt tough too.

So if Jacksonville beats Indy tonight do we cheer for a Jacksonville win against New England? would we then have the tiebreaker against New England? assuming we can take care of business and win our games of course.

The ideal situation is if Buffalo could beat NE this weekend. That would give us the tiebreaker based on division record. If NE beats Buffalo but loses to Jacksonville, then the next tie breaker is common opponents.

at this point I'm hoping for a second consecutive AFC East title!!!

With the Pats falling apart at the seems, this might not be out of the question.

I honestly believe Buffalo has a shot of doing to New England what they did to us 3 weeks ago. WINNING!

New England is on the road where they are absolutely horrible!
Belicheat seems to have lost the dressing room for now.

It's to the point where I would actually go to a bookie and put money on the Bills beating New England I honestly believe there is a legitimate shot here!

Anyone one else feeling this vibe????

I think Buffalo has a shot to keep it close withing the 7.....winning the game, it wouldn't shock me but I wouldn't bank on it

I do think it's possible. The Pats have only won 1 road game and that was in London. The Pats' secondary has also been exposed for being terrible. And Fitzpatrick has been airing it out a lot more under the new coach, so TO and Evans could have big days. And Vince Woolfork and Ty Warren are both hurting, the Pats run defense may not be up to par, either. Oh yeah, and then there's the question of whether or not Moss feels like playing hard. You can never count on the Pats to lose, but Buffalo has a better chance to win this game than people think.
