I was looking at the conference standings on ESPN, and it shows us 6th. Does that mean we currently win the tiebreaker with Baltimore? If we win out, along with NE and Baltimore, are we out? What if Denver drops the game at Philly?
Im not sure how the tiebreaker with Balitmore breaks down. Currently we have the same conference record as them, so if we both win out then it would go to "commen opponent" I believe. We both lost to INdy. We both played New England, we got a win on them and they lost to them. We both would have played Pitt and to win out we would have win on them, B'more would have 2 wins on Pitt. They beat SD, we lost to SD.
So it looks like B'more holds the tiebreaker over us but I'm not 100% sure.
I think that we are in... I think when there is 3 teams involved we are in.. We are tied with Jacksonville and Baltimore and I believe Jacksonville has the tie breaker over Baltimore so that puts them in front of Baltimore and seeing we just beat Jacksonville we are ahead of them... I think it works that way but I am not sure....
I don't think it works that way cause put us in front of Jax and we knock them out then put up vs B'more and they knock us out. If its a 3 way tie its really complicated.
But Jax has INDY and NE up next I don't expect them to be involved.
Yea way to complicated.... But as far as where we are listed I think they first break the tie between div tied opponents which would be the Jags.. then they goto conf. which would be the phins, but like I said who the hell knows.... Will someone with some know please clue us in... and arnt the Jets also in that mix? I know they would be behind us but where???
1.# Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
Looks like that would say div is dissolved for the leader before the conf. Like I had stated..... So Jags would be it
2.#Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
So if Conference record is #2 then Jax is in Baltimore Next and then Phins??? Confusing..... So phins beat Jax and tied but still behind em? Is that right? Asking if I am deducting is right not your explanation...

Right now we are in a 4 way tie with JAX, BAL and NYJ for the last WC spot.
If the playoffs started tomorrow:
1- Throw out the head-to-head tiebreaker since we never played Baltimore.
RESPONSE: They really have to take a look at this. True, we have not played the Ravens but we are a 100% winner over the other two teams having beaten the Jets twice and Jax once.
Any rational system would eliminate them from consideration.
It seems irrational that despite that, either the Jets or the Jags could go.
If I were Baltimore, I wouldn't feel too great about that either.
Why should a team, or two teams, that have lost to one of the other teams make it over me?
I think the rule ought to be in case of ties, losers are eliminated first.
(of course, not saying that won't come back to bite us in the ass one day.)
I can't see how the Jags could be ranked higher than us. Identical records, but we beat them head-to-head. NFL.com doesn't update their rankings until, I think, tomorrow or Tuesday. That might be why it was listed that way during the game.
Again, Monte, it is probably because there are more teams tied for that spot (I haven't looked yet) than just the two of us and unless all parties have played each other, head to head doesn't matter.

The head to head tiebreaker goes out the window when there are more than two teams tied.
Jacksonville is 6-3 in the conference. That's why they are still the #6 seed.
It's not that complicated, yet. We eliminate the Jets because of our tiebreaker with them. That leaves us, Baltimore, and Jacksonville. We don't play Baltimore, so they can't used the "head to head sweep" tiebreaker. So, it moves on to conference record. It's after that when it gets confusing.

There are 4 teams at 7-6 fighting for one wildcard spot:
Jets - (we beat them twice, so they're out)
Jax - (we beat them head-to-head, so they should be out)
Baltimore - (they have a better conference record than us right now)
Miami
Based on this, the rankings SHOULD BE:
Baltimore
Miami
Jax
Jets
for the last wildcard spot. If Denver loses one, then they fall into that pack as well. At this point, we have to root for a Baltimore or NE loss. I'm worried neither may happen. Baltimore plays Chicago, Pitt, and Oakland. None of those teams has been playing that well. NE plays Buffalo, Jax, and Houston. Our best chance may be Jax over NE, but they'll have to play better than they did today.

I just realized Jax doesn't matter. They play NE. As long as we win out:
1. if Jax wins we're in as the winner of the AFC East
2. if Jax loses then we leapfrog them
The problem is Baltimore. What is it with us and Baltimore? I'm so over that team, but they always seem to be in the way.
