Free Agency will be NOTHING this offseason. It will be an uncapped year. Each team gets a 2nd franchise tag under the rules of an uncapped year. All of the good free agents are stuck with their current teams and won't be on the open market.
The CBA won't be settled till 2011. In March 2011 you will have the NFLPA vs NFL in court. The Owners will lose (they already know it) and the NFL players salary's will increase at the rate the Salary Cap has increased. It will get settled but not till then.
Draft Picks and hitting on draft picks next year will be essential.....draft picks are a premium and with pretty much zero free agency. There is also no fear of the Cowboys, Redskins, Jets, and Pats of signing everyone under the sun.....cause there will be nobody to sign!!!!!
Well, you can forget a true #1 receiver next year, then. We're going to be stuck with Camarillo, Hartline, Bess, and Ginn. Good news is Henne will only get better, and the timing will improve between him and his receivers. I still see us going for an ILB in the 1st round, but the big questions will be NT and RB. If Soliai is ready, then maybe NT will be fine, but I'm not so confident about Ronnie after a 2nd major injury.
The rookie scale will have little impact on the majority of the draft. They are targeting the top 10 picks and the ridiculous money being given to kids who have not played a snap in the NFL.
If that is how it plays out, there will likely be a handful of guys who enter the draft early...guys who are confident that they would be a top 10 pick. Anyone who would be a mid-round guy would be better served to wait and then try and move up in the next draft ( presumably a few extra departures would move people up the ladder.)
From what I've read/heard... the players will reject anything that attempts to reduce the salaries across the board...but they are willing to Cap the top picks as long as that money goes into raising the Salary FLOOR. ie. any savings the owners get from capping the rookies is passed on to the Veterans.
