RESPONSE: Sticking with "I don't care" would have done the trick. What
Berkeley was trying to do was duplicate the argument concerning the Pats vs. the Saints a week ago. Of course, he lacked the intelligence to perceive that it did not apply.

Speaking of ANSWER your answer to your own question was

"yes I want us to win today, screw the 1972 record I'm sick of hearing old guys like you talking about it"

SO LET ME GET THIS RIGHT, YOU WOULD ACCEPT A WIN FOR US TODAY AGAINST THE PATS AND IN EXCHANGE WOULD BE HAPPY WITH THE SAINTS BEATING US IN THE SUPERBOWL AND GOING UNDEFEATED.........................

RATHER THAN US LOSING TODAY AND BEATING THE SAINTS IN THE SUPERBOWL??????

Real smart and real devoted to the CURRENT TEAM....yeah, that's all that matters is the current team so you want them to lose the SUPERBOWL IN MIAMI JUST TO WIN ONE GAME TODAY....

YEAH, REAL SMART.

I am really beginning to rethink my assessment of you as intelligent, BobH. About 8 posts ago I said leave the phins winning the SB out of it (do you really think that's gonna happen anyway)? And yet you keep knocking down straw men and refusing to answer what I thought was a simple question. Frankly I no longer care about your answer.

RESPONSE: But then again you stated that you would like the see the record gone just not to have to worry about it being broken

first if you are going to quote get it right i said ALMOST (i think i actually said it twice )

second i dint say i was worried about it being broken(i would personally hate to see it TIED) but do get a little tired of the over the top thought of it being sacred above all else mentality

that being said, my point was i am more concerned with the future of the team then worried about preserving the sanctity of the 72 dolphins which was the point of my statement

either way hopefully this win actually meant something not just fo rthis season but was a sign going forward

Easy way out of the discussion. If you take the SuperBowl out of the equation, who wouldn't want us to win.

That's what Reppa and I both answered you with. We said that we would take the win because there was always a chance that New Orleans would lose to someone else.

Then you SWITCHED and said, what you meant was that we win but the
Saints go undefeated and win the SuperBowl.

When I then pinned you against the wall and said, "Hey that would mean they would EVEN BEAT US IN THE SUPERBOWL"

then you changed it again and said, "Well disregard the SuperBowl."

I came back and then said, "Well, if they are going be like the Pats and lose in the SuperBowl, I don't give a shit. Hell yeah, I would take the win because you are saying the 72 Dolphin record is safe."

Now you are talking about straw men and still refusing to answer the question which in your innocence you thought to trap me with.

So answer the question.

I don't even know what your question is I am supposed to be answering. I answered what I assume you are getting at a few posts ago--I care about us winning TODAY more than the 1972 phins record. If you said to me in the 1st Q down 14-0 to the Pats, the phins win TODAY but the Saints go undefeated (and Miami does not make the SB for whatever reason, maybe we don't make the playoffs) would I take the win TODAY--my answer is YES. Can you understand, follow this? Or is it too complicated?

RESPONSE: Honestly, AngrySeas, devoting time to Berkeley, I DID catch the ALMOST but that doesn't make any difference to my point.

Your point was that

> i'll say this i'll take us going to the afc
> championchip game and losing to an undefeated
> colts who go on to face an undefeated saints
> team....i would sign that contract right now

my point was that this doesn't mean a helluva lot to me from someone who almost wishes we did not have the record at all or who almost wishes it were beaten in order to not have people occupied with it.

yeah you are misrepresenting what im saying even after i clarify it but dont let that stop you

of course i dont want it tied but if it is so be it ..we already lost out oppurtinity to stop both of them
if we were acttually fortunate to make it to the sb and lose to a perfect saints team i would be happy from the point that this team woudl actually be legit as oppose to a future project team(yes of course i would be pissed in teh moment of us getting so close and losing)

RESPONSE: So logically that means that you would trade a win today even if it locked the door to the SuperBowl win. OR PUT ANOTHER WAY, you would AT LEAST trade going to the playoffs this year for a win today.

My position is simple. Since I can have both, I wanted a win today and a Saints loss. If I had to choose, I wanted a win today because the Saints can always lose before or in the SuperBowl.

Would I take a win today if it meant the Saints would go undefeated and win the SuperBowl? Hell no, and few on this board would---if for no other reason, then because it would mean thaT we would lose the SuperBowl.

What's frustrating you is that you are trying to duplicate PHINFANS2 argument but you don't have his facts and you don't have his intelligence.

But let me phrase your question for you in an intelligent manner.

This morning our record was 5-6. Would I rather win this game and go 6-6 even if we wind up 6-10 AND BE ASSURED that New Orleans would go 19-0......?

Hell no BUT YOU WOULD!

The only reason I would POSSIBLY want to win today would be to advance our playoff chances.

wHY IN THE SAM HILL WOULD I WANT TO WIN TODAY (AND GIVE UP THE UNDEFEATED RECORD)IF NOT TO GET IN THE PLAYOFFS.

BUT YOU WOULD. You brush off the playoffs by saying 'Oh, just suppose we lose at some point before the SuperBowl."

But why do you want to win if not to win the SuperBowl.

So, yes, little Virginia, I would give up a win if I KNOW WE WEREN'T GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS ANYWAY TO PRESERVE THE 72 DOLPHINS RECORD.

But you have made it clear that you would throw away the uniqueness of a perfect record to go 6-10 instead of 5-11,

Anybody else agree with him?

Can

> complicated?

RESPONSE: Listen, Angryseas, you jumped into this fight between Berkeley and me so don't try to back off from the positions that he took by saying that you too, like me, would hate to see our record tied (actually beaten because we only went 17-0).

Berkeley chose to ask the wrong question in the wrong situation.

But you said that you could see what he was getting at, sentiment-wise.

Now you post that you would be happy to make it to the Super Bowl which of course all of us would.

Berkeley was saying that he would trade a single win for the 72 record, even if we were going nowhere anyway.

The question for you is do you agree with him?

nevr changed anything so dont say im backing off i have been consistent in what ive said ...you focused on the "almost" comment instead of what i was saying thats how u misrepresented but again dotn let that stop you

my point of saying the whole "almost" thing was some miami fans just sound way to desperate and tired in their viewof the santity of the 72 record just imo ..as i said we had our chance to stop it and couldnt

would i trade one win ...no and not sure anyone siad that and not tgoing to get into a back and forth on that but i would trade it fo ra good playoff run which showed this team may be closer to the next level

not sure the point of all thi sbut im bored and its passing tiem for me

so for the record

another undefeated season for a pointless win...no

another undefeated team for a good playoff run..yes

did i ever say i never wanted the record or wish it would go away..no(was too much fun telling pats fans what a great season they had 2 yrs ago...not perfect but great)

PhinFans2

Making the playoffs was not involved in this discussion.

It was a silly question about whether we would accept a win today (and only a win today) if the price was that the Saints would go undefeated.

The reason I brought you into it was that THAT WAS NOT OUR ARGUMENT. It was not the same road you and I went down.

However, if you accept berkeley's premise, then I mistook my assessment on the worth of your argument, PhinFans2.

RESPONSE: Obviously, I would too. That's why I said that I would not trade the legacy for just one game. Let's put it like this. If God said, "I can put the Dolphins in the Super Bowl against the Undefeated Saints but I won't guarantee you a win. Of course, you realize, if you lose then the legacy is gone. So ChyrenB, wanna take that chance?"
I would say yes.

I think you would also Angryseas.

Everybody who wrote in this topic was obviously drunk. It makes about as much sense as:

"Who would win in a fight, Superman or Neo?"

The only correct answer for something like this is: "That is a stupid question."

That was what both Reppa and I said in about posts numbers 4 and 5 on the first page, Futt.

It's a silly question!
