dumb move, we need him.
my prediction--he signs with the Pats this week, makes a big play vs us in 2 weeks, and will be a pain in our asses for years to come.

You (berkeley223) are probably right because they need someone like him. I do get the feeling he was a cancer in the locker room though. He was always talking smack! I dont know if we needed him as much as they do.

No surprise at this move at all. Roth was too small and too weak to play DE. We learned that his first two years. And in the last year and a half, we learned he is way too slow to be a LB. He can't cover a TE or RB, so he's a really a run defense specialist. And it's tough to have one of those at LB. He really doesn't fit a position. He's no big loss. And I was really disappointed when I saw what kind of shape he was in. Last year, the move to LB was unexpected, so there was an excuse. This year, he knew he was playing LB, yet he still looks 15-20 lbs overweight.

No big deal he's slow, weak, to small to be a DL, and had insubordination issues, which to me equals low IQ. Pats might sign this guy just to learn our playbook, but hes got no use to them other that.

Makes me wonder if the whole mysterious injury was indeed a contract ploy and they just said enough?

shocked by this move. I don't understand it.

His attitude must have been terrible behind the scenes. Only thing that makes sense.

I'll be very interested to hear what was really going on with this once the stories finally get out.

I do think he is needed. I think he really showed value last year at setting the edge on his side and proved to be a decent OLB.

I DO think it has more to do with his attitude in the locker room and with the front office than his play on the field. Last year he played well early on and disappeared for the 2nd half of the year, so I'm not sure it's much of a loss.

I think it sends a message about what the organization will and will NOT put up with. I like that! Also, with the emergence of Anderson, I think he was expendable. Still, with Porter and JT likely gone very soon, this makes LB (inside AND outside) our biggest point of need going into next year's draft.

I think Parcells has about had enough of Drew Rosenhouse like mentality.

Roth wasn't too smart or he wouldn't have played the games.

I would have like to have seen us get something for him, but the value had to be low in theleague after the early year antics and being out of shape.

Mesage to the team is worth the loss ... and he is most definately replaceable.

This decision makes a statement to the fence riders on the team ... step up or the FO is not afraid to move you into the category of "sunk cost".

1. I think too many of us as fans get caught up into what we paid for someone vs, what they are really worth anymore.

- I'm first to wanting to see us get smething for players when we drop them, but Roth's value diminished in the last year (badly)

2. Matt Roth's upside (was his motor and attitude) became his downside when he started listening to the idiot he hired as his agent

3. Players needing to take notice to Roth's exit:

- Tedd Ginn (if not as a wr) needs to show something special in the special teams area ... and soon.

- Jason Allen, The team took a hit on him and he hasn't entrenched himself despite many chances. If he comes back it will be for less cash or after he is cut IMHO. I like his hitting, but he is replaceable.

- Anthony Fasano, may already be too late, martin will be back next year and i think we'll p/U someone in the draft or FA also

- Pat White The experiment will need to bear fruit or he won't be here next year.

- Joey Porter, More mouth than performance for most of the year ... jury is still out but not a lock to return

I like Roth. I think he was great against the run. he did a good job of setting the edge.

Cameron Wake has been coming on strong and is pressuring the QB all the time. he is getting better against the run. Charlie Anderson showed lots.

Roth is without question making some type of contract grab. He wants to secure a bigger payday. I'm not sure what the downside of playing out his contract is? Drew Rosencashgrab certainly has a plan that Matt went along with.

I think they wanted to make sure he was good and healthy, no hint of any 'injury', give him some plays, then cut him without the fear of an injury grievance, and give the plays to Wake and Anderson.

It's a drag for Roth fans, but it makes sense.

Another busted player drafted by dick saban. I'm not shocked and I don' t believe he is a great lost. This is good news for Wake one less guy to compete with. I'm not sure why so many people are shocked by this I can understand mikeO but we have already established he knows nothing about football even though he worked for the front office at some point according to him.

He was too small for DE and too slow to keep up with TE. I think it was a good move.

what the heck is your problem? You just go out of you way in EVERY post to take a shot at me??? Your life must be pretty lame, boring, and dull if this is how you get your jollys.

Way to derail a thread and a conversation

Why don't you let the man fend for himself realist. MikO likes to take pot shots at everyone here but does not appreciate the return. He is a big boy. Besides the post was not intended as a pot shot just repeating a comment he made in an earlier post and besides you and a few others there is not a lot of people who know a lot about football other than watching it. I don't think that is a secret, I just put MikO in that category. Even though he "worked" for the front office

Happy thanksgiving to all

Fair enough, but, I get bored with all the personal attacks that get going.

Sometimes I will see a really long thread and halfway down it becomes insults back & forth.

I think lots of us would appreciate it if Everyone cut back on the insults and keep the discussions about Football, Phins, etc.

Don't worry, Ranger will go the way of MiamiThunder and Ghotriule and be gone from here soon. He's so consumed with bashing me he will push Curt to his limit by continuing to break the rules. Just a matter of time before he's gone
