Hey guys I was just rewatching the Carolina game and was wondering something. If Carpenter hadn't slipped and flubbed the first kick-off would Carolina have scored. It seemed that our phins got better as that drive went on and if they could have had those lost kick off yards back that at least at a minimum Carolina would have had a longer field goal try.

What do you guys think? Carpenter seems to be just OK as does our punter. Are these positions we look at upgrading next year?

Carpenter has missed 1 FG this year, from 49 yards. He's 2 for 2 in his career from beyond 50. He's 20 for 20 in his career from 39 yards or less. He's 15 for 20 in his career from 40-49 yards. Carpenter is just fine.

Fields is averaging 46.3 yards per punt, 6th best in the NFL. His net avg of 40.0 yards is 8th best in the NFL. He's downed 17 punts inside the 20, which is 11th in the NFL. Fields is also just fine.

There is no reason at all to replace or at this point even be talking about them, other than to say the are doing a great job! Our need is a big #1 WR.

Carpenter is pretty much the best kicker we've had since Mare imho.

The ground was a little wet. He planted too hard on his foot for the wet weather. I doubt he'll make the same mistake again

I like his FG kicking but I really do wish he could boot the ball out of the endzone every now and again. I hate knowing that if we go up against a dangerous return man that he can't just be neutralized by a big kick. with Mare it was automatic.

Fields is excellent and is young so should only get better.

with Stoyo and Mare in their primes we had some good kickers here.

I always thought Mare was overrated. He had one great year other than that he was nothing special.

He cost us the division and playoffs in 2002. Missed FG late vs New England to ice the game. Then starts overtime kicking the ball out of bounds, gives NE the ball at the 40.....game over!

Joe Nedney was the worst kicker we ever had though. He went on to be decent for other teams, but when he was with us he was horrid.

Mare had a couple of good years, but I will always remember him as Captain Dirt Infield Chokejob.

IMO the worst kicker we ever had was Uwe Von Shank-man. They cut Garo for this guy and he SUCKED.
