They didn't try the field goal because it was longer than a chip shot, and I'm guessing they thought the risk of a block and runback was too great, esp. with so man of our blockers injured. I'm not even sure how many of the starting OL is on FG kicking team but for whatever reason they thought the risk was too great.
I agree they should have had Ricky in there. My only guess is they were afraid he might fumble, BUT he was hot tonight. Gotta dance with the one that brung ya....and Ricky 'brung' the team tonight. He would have gotten the first down.

I don't think the issue was whether our kicker can make that kick. I think the issue was whether our line, with all the injuries, could have provided protection. I'll bet they were worried Carpenter might not have gotten the kick off without it being blocked.

Good point. In fact, with our 2 top centers out, who would have snapped the ball to the holder? Bad snap means bad kick.
Ricky looked great, Henne looked OK, I was even a little impressed with Hilliard on the few touches he had early. Wished he just woulda went down on that last drive...near fumble. And last but not least....Teddy had an impressive game. Some clutch first down catches and a couple good returns.
Question...if we weren't going to kick the fg at the end, why not do a quick kick or something just to get the ball down field a little more? Where was Ricky? Sometimes I wonder where Sparano's head is at the end of these games!
3 yards was a little much. I may have tried to get Henne and Ginn to try and hook up for an intentional "give the ball to the other team" interception at the 10 or something. Who knows, tell Ginn to help the defense get an INT and he may make the catch!!

Oh yeah, so they can run the INT all the way back for a score..brilliant!
