We used the play-action pass less than we used the wildcat formation... is that a gimmick too??

It's a formation. Not a gimmick. A very very old formation that went by the wayside when the forward pass blew up. It is not a gimmick

To Phinphan2:

None of the comments bear re-typing or counter responses.

I explained my thinking, you are entitled to your interpretation of "gimmick", as I am to mine.

I choose to maintain in context to the Miami Dolphins ... btw is what people have been talking about relative to the "wildcat" this is anything but a gimmick.

It is a rather excellent execution of a long standing formation in which the coaching, and players are well suited for.

Gimmick. Let's look at the real definition from Webster.

"an ingenious and usually new scheme or angle." A trick or device used to attract business or attention."
"a concealed, usually devious aspect or feature of something, as a plan or deal."

As one can see, there are two "angles" to this. One might be considered negative the other positive.

I prefer the positive one that our Phins are doing. It is an ingenious new scheme that WORKS GREAT!!!!!!smileys with beer

There is no way its a "gimmick" Phinsfan.

It is our offense. Not a gimmick. We use it more than once or twice a game.

No... that's why I wrote the play action pass vs the wildcat formation. The wildcat is a formation but by your earlier pontification, that if it's used 20-25% then it must be a gimmick..

I countered your argument by stating that the phins used the play action less times that they used the wildcat formation, thereby relegating it to gimmick status in your eyes??

c'mon.. follow along now.. not that difficult. You can do it! I know it!

Folks, it is an ingenious and new scheme in the NFL making it a gimmick in the positive sense. You seem to think this word "gimmick" is negitive. It is positive in that the gimmick is working quite well. Well enough that other teams are trying it.

Anyway who cares what anyone else says, as long as we keep kicking ass.smiling bouncing smiley
