Sean Smith's first big test....

We've got T.O this weekend. This is the reason why we got Smith, he is a big CB with huge upside. He has to face numerous big, physical WR's throughout the season and T.O will be the first. We will definately see what he is made of. I am excited and looking forward to this matchup. I wont get discourages either way, seeing as T.O is a hall of fame WR and Smith is just a rookie. Nevertheless, lets see what the rookies got!

Thes test is on the defense in general:

Sean Smith will be tested, but the rest of the defense has to perform too.

The biggest thing the FINS can do to help Smith succeed is to get a decent pass rush.

And now our best passrusher is hurt. Porters has some kind of hamstring injury. Hopelly Jt and company can pick up the pace.

PS. Not that porter has done anything special this year. He was invisible on the first two games and he got a sack against the chargers. He hasnt done anything spectacular but his presense alone helps.

Well I understand its the entire defense.

But my point of this thread was in an individual one on one matchup.

Please dont turn this thread into an entire defense discussion, Im trying to keep in strictly to Sean Smith and how he fairs against TO. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Sean Smith against terrell owens....

Rookie with lots of potential against pro bowler who might be in the hall of fame one day...

My money is on terrell owens.....And thats not a put down on sean smith. I mean, who doesn't get beat by terrell owens. I hope im wrong because if smith is successfull to any kind of degree againt owens that would mean we hit the jackpot.

The guy might be a loud mouth, but he is a great player.

The question is................Can we put pressure on their qb?

It is a test, but Smith can fail and I won't be too upset. Sean Smith has 13 weeks in my mind to learn the NFL now with no pressure.

I need him up to speed by Week 1 of NEXT year. This is is over with,we aren't going anywhere. We need Smith and Davis to be legit NFL corners by Week 1 of next year. So I will live with all the growing pains I get this year with Davis, Smith, and Henne!

Go for it. Just don't torch him if TO has all day to get open.

Sean Smith was thrown into the wolves in his first year..And so is vontae.......I agree it would be foolish to torch them in their first few starts. or in their first year btw.

Agreed, Trent Edwards already has check-down fever and that's when he has time to look downfield.

There is pressure on him and his OC to throw to T.O. and Lee Evans. Sean Smith is a tempting target, and I think Edwards has the talent to get the ball to his guys...if he has time.

Edwrdas will be under pressure to throw deep. If we can get in his face quickly maybe we can get him to make some bad choices? Maybe Smith can pick one off and be the difference maker.

Would love to see us get the turnovers working in our favor for a change. Sean is agressive and capable of the big play!

The on e big difference I've seen between this year and last year is in the ability to capitalize on opportunities:

1. Redzone
2. Forcing turnovers
3. Coming down with the ball (offense or defensively)
4. Special teams (Though a bit better last week) we need to break away returns and force turnovers on KO and punts once in a while.
