I had high hopes for him too. Didn't seem like they were thinking the injury was that bad during the pre-season. I wonder if they just don't have a spot for him any longer.
Dolphins’ Matt Roth rehabbing for Week 6 return

DAVIE — Opening day is still five weeks away for Matt Roth.
The Dolphins may be playing their second game of the season Monday night against Indianapolis, but Roth, last year’s starting strong-side linebacker, remains on the reserve/non-football injury list with what is believed to be an injured groin and can’t rejoin the team until Oct. 20th, after the sixth week of the season.
In the meantime, Roth merely crosses paths with his teammates. While they practice and travel for road games, he comes to the Dolphins’ training facility in Davie every day of the week to lift weights and rehabilitate an injury he is barred from discussing.
On Friday, while several of his teammates were relaxing, playing dominoes in the locker room, Roth and several others shot baskets at a mini-basket against the wall.
“I pretty much live here,” Roth said. “I’ve never missed a practice in my life, in my 23 years of playing football. It’s tough.”
NFL rules say he cannot practice while he is on the reserve/non-football injury list, and, because the injury was sustained in the offseason, he is not entitled to receive his $700,000 salary for the time he’s inactive, according to the players association.
Plus, it is the Dolphins’ policy to fine any player who discusses his injury or his progress. So Roth remains quiet and in limbo.
The Tuesday after the Week 6 games are played, the Dolphins have 21 days to let Roth practice before they have to make a decision on his status. So, by Nov. 9, they must either activate him or put him on injured reserve for the rest of the year.
“I’m rehabbing like I’m coming back in Week 6,” he said.
