I see no playoffs this year, but, hopefully, we end up with a starting QB for many years to come. I'm optimistic about our future at CB and DE. We still need:
1. To solidify our LBers. We need 2 new ILBs and to develop our young OLBs. The 4 guys we have starting now at LB will NOT be playing for us in 2 years!
2. A safety along side Bell. We had trouble filling that spot last year, and that has rolled over into this year.
3. A solid and reliable TE. Fasano looked like the real deal last year, but he was obviously helped by sharing time with David Martin. He's not the future Pro-Bowler we thought he was going to be and will likely need to be replaced.
4. To add some young guys on the O-Line and build some continuity. I don't think our O-Line building is done. This will probably be Smiley's last year, and Grove has been simply average so far. I haven't been impressed with Carey either.
5. To solidify our WR position. Ginn should be gone very soon. We have yet to see if Hartline is starting material. Bess or Camarillo could be solid possession receivers. Turner may be good coming in on 3rd down or, maybe, developing into that TE we really need!
It's because of all of this I said 3 years. We're not close enough yet to really contend.
