The Trouble with our WR's.......

The problem with our WR's is that we haven't had a starting QB that can throw an accurate deep ball since Marino.

I like Chad Pennington; but, even on his long balls, they float, the WR has to come back, fight, etc.

If our QB hits Ginn deep streaking down the sideline....Ginn becomes an elite WR...by virtue of the QB's throw. The coverage changes which opens things up for the other WR's and the running game, which opens up a few more deep shots downfield.

The QB is the issue.

Henne has a good deep ball, but he needs more time with the first group to develop some chemistry, and hit the homerun.

Camarillo is a very good route runner and is a good possession guy, Bess has great hands and feet, Turner's size and speed combo SHOULD make him a solid NFL WR, and Hartline is going to be good too. But they would all be better if our QB can hit Ginn deep.

The other issue is we don't have a true STUD #1 receiver ala:

Moss, Fitz, Boldin, Cal Johnson, A. Johnson, B. Marshall, V. Jackson, S.Smith, to name a few.

A true #1 is someone who just flat out abuses anyone who covers them, or tries to tackle them with huge RAC yards.

If you think we have that type of true #1, I'd like to know who it is.
IMO, that's on the agenda for next year.

You know what be carefull what you wish for. I'm tired of all you Henne lovers and Penny haters! I hope Penny gets hurt just so you Henne lovers can watch him come in and lose us games by throwing a int to a D-line man ten yards out from the goal line. Yeah just chemistry is all he needs. Penningtons long ball looked good thursday. Hartline had no trouble catching it, i think Ginn is the problem. If our deep ball has some issue's then we need to work on better route running to get the timing better, because if the ball sails some, then the qb needs to throw sooner. If Penny gets hurt, and we put in Henne, we will loose 3 to 4 games because of his lack there of.

You can have a great team with a sh*tty QB and you really have no team....You can have a sh*tty team with a great QB and you might have a chance.

The QB is EVERYTHING! I support Pennington, but when the WR's are running their routes and have to keep in the back of their head if the QB is going to make the throw accurately (penn is) but fast enough to not have to fight for it.

And look at what YOU'RE wishing for?!?!

You know, up until now, I believed that you were a fan of the Miami Dolphins. No fan wants the starting QB to be injured.

It's all about timing. The throw to Hartline in the last game was right-on. It hit Hartline right in stride. The key is going to be our O-Line and some anticipation by Penny. Sure, Penny is no Marino, but if Trent Dilfer could win a SuperBowl, Penny can!

I rest my case.

Oh so now everyone wants to defend Penny. Make up your minds people, either Henne or Penny. There can be only one.

I never wished for anything. Pennington doesn't have an accurate deep ball. Henne has a stronger arm...but ..he isn't ready. How is that wishing for Henne? Or hating on Penny?

I didn't make up that 'rumour'...People have called him noodle arm back when he was with the Jets. They don't say that about Favre. It isn't about distance, it is about accuracy and velocity over distance.

Go watch the Hartline catch and tell me if the ball hits Hartline in stride or if Hartline has to stop/slow down and adjust under the ball. That's what I saw.

Good play, good throw, but not a rainbow. We need a few of those to open up the other phases of the game.

If Pennington was our QB 5-7 years ago when Zach and JT were still dominating, and our secondary was stifling, and we had a decent running game? And we had Chambers and Welker and a Tight End?????

We would have made it to a Superbowl.

We don't have that defense anymore, so we need more from our QB.

The thread was never about Pennington OR Henne...it was that Miami hasn't had a QB who could throw an accurate deep ball since Marino left, and how that has impacted the WR's.

Start your own thread about Penny Vs. Henne. Don't make this one about that...since neither has demonstrated anything to contradict my premise.

I see you getting on your Chambers high-horse again. Still sore about that, I suppose?

Realist is exactly right. I love Pennington but his deep ball accuracy is atrocious. Against Jacksonville Ginn had the DB beat for a 95+ yard TD pass but Penny underthrew him horribly. Dan the Man would have hit Ginn in stride.

I will admit though, as bad as Penny is on deep balls, he is better than any others including Fiedler. Still, I hope Henne can accurately hit the deep passes when his number is called someday.

Chambers was wasted on Feidler for so long. He is 4th on the all-time Dolphins list for WR's in many categories...He would have loved to play with Pennington; long ball notwithstanding.

Atleast Pennington throws it in the field of play. I remember Jay Fiedler throwing the ball 10 yards out of bounds, totally uncatchable.

Can't get it all in a year. we did the right thing in building the team from the inside out.

Offense and defense draft picks went first to the O-line and D-line (as it should have been.

Yes we used some #2s for QB, and got lucky with Penny for an accurate (darn we needed accurate, and poised leader).

Be very very happy we have penny, as he is a good leader and has a lot more good than most QBs.

It takes an incredible talent, or a very high draft pick (top 10) to get a young starting QB from the draft. Henne was never a top 10, or even a #1.

It takes a few years to make a good one great. Henne may get there, but he showed the other night that he is miles from having penny's poise.
- I like Henne, but he hardly got into a second read before he made up his mind, and often bailed out. He has a lot of learning still.

*****

All this said, we have the nucleus to be agood team. Though you'd not have known it from this last game.

Hoping Sparano gets down to business with them this week. That was the most complacent and weak performance I've seen out of this team since the new regime took over.

Didn't Chicago go to the Superbowl a couple years with Grossman as the QB?

Yep! And Baltimore won with Trent Dilfer. Heck, Pitt went to the SB back in '96 with Neil O'Donnell.
