Well, predictions anyway...here's hoping we see Patrick Turner step up, JA play legit #2 corner, the OL gel around Jake Grove, and hopefully less traditional 3-4 schemes counting on Matt Roth to play SSOLB, and more creative nickel packages with Sean Smith and Vontae Davis bumping at the line and thumping over the middle, Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor subbing in to bring heat, etc...we did the Wildcat last year, who says we can't come up with something equally innovative on defense? We have a lot of personnel with unique skill sets...get it done, Trifecta smiling smiley

I'd say they're conservative and safe picks, except for Jason Allen. Eric Green or, possibly, Sean Smith (yes, the rookie) will be starting opposite Will Allen in week 1. JA is on the way out.

All good except for Jason Allen who will be lucky to make it as a ST player and backup CB.

CB rankings...

1 Will Allen
2 Sean Smith
3 Vontae Davis
4 Eric Green
5 Jason Allen
6 Nathan Jones

Vontae will be at the top of that list by midseason....

Based on that he is a first round pick and was picked like 100 spots before sean smith for a reason.

The fact that i belive he will start is just a guess just like you guessed sean smith will start opposite of will allen.

There is no way to tell when they were practicing in shorts and no hitting allowed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it wasn't 100 spots. It was 36 but that just makes the fact that Smith impressed the coaches as much as Davis (if not more) all the more impressive.

It may be partially a guess or speculation but I have been high on Smith since way before the draft. I was more impressed with him than Davis because of the similarities between Smith and Nnamdi and his abilty to make plays and his ability to step into a role with limited experience and still make plays.

He has shown that same ability in the limited opportunities here in Miami.

IMO, Hitting does not mean as much in practice for a CB as it does for a lineman, RB or LB. They are still jamming the WR at the line. They just aren't tackling them after the catch.

I am not saying that VD won't be successful. I think he will be a guy that gets turnovers and is great in run support. His knock has always been the mental lapse. This coaching staff will not play him until they are confident he knows what he is doing. We didn't have an NFL record for fewest turnovers for nothing.

The fact is that it usually takes time for a CB to pick up the NFL game. I think Smith will pick it up quicker.

For 2009, if we can have Will Allen on one side covering the speed guys like Galloway and Evans, Smith on the other covering Moss and T.O and Davis as the nickle covering the slot receivers like Welker, we could have a very nice defensive backfield.

Personally I hope Davis knocks the snot out of Welker and makes him think twice about going over the middle.

It is certainly going to be a great competition in camp this year.

I hope so as well....they say davis is a hard hitter....Even this year in OTAs..........When davis was interviwed he said he got in trouble because he put someone on the ground......And from the beginning the coaches said there was no contact......I think the guy loves contact and thats a good thing for a DB especially against the run.

Sporano has made it clear he won't be reserving any spots on his roster for special teams specialists - Palm Beach Post

This does not bode well for Jason Allen.

Sounds like Wilford is looking a lot better in camp. IS it possible he beats out Joey Haynos for the 3rd TE spot. It would be nice to get some production out of that fat contract he signed.

Can you imagine the red zone offense with a combination of these guys?

Anthony Fasano 6'4
Ernest Wilford 6'4
Patrick Turner 6'5
Brandon London 6'4

That's tough work for a 5'10 CB or a 6'0 Safety.

I'm guessing Nalbone makes it ahead of Wilford. I won't be surprise if Armstrong beats out London either.

I don't see Merling as a starter. I say they start Jason Taylor instead.

Jason Taylor at DE in a 3-4 would be a bigger mistake than when Washington used him at Left End in a 4-3.

A 3-4 DE usually occupies two blockers so the LBer's can make the plays.

I think Starks will make a name for himself this year with 30 plus tackles and 5 sacks. He is a young and upcoming player.

I agree. I think the WR position opposite Ginn will change throughout the season depending on the health of Cam's knee and the development of Hartline and Turner.

and hopefully Thomas can stay healthy at RG.

I don't know IMO it will be very hard to dethrone bess especially if he is having as good a year as last.

I think Cam would still be number 1 if not for his knee wearing down.

WQAM host Orlando Alzugaray forecasts the Miami Dolphins for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Notable: Receiver Chris Williams makes the cut ahead of Brandon London and Ernest Wilford.

Shows how much this doofus knows about Miami. Didn't even mention Armstrong and Wilford is at TE.

What do you guys think?

He's not that far off. Wilford has a big contract and has to prove himself this year. Our receivers are very talented, and it's going to be tough for him. Williams was impressive returning kicks. I know Sparano doesn't want to carry a special teams specialist, but there were at least 3 times Williams looked like he could break it for a TD.

As for Armstrong, he did more yesterday than London.

The inital list is pretty much on, but Id differ (as oothers) with 2 positions:

Sean Smith for Jason Allen
Devon Bess for Camarillo

(BTW I really like Camarillo, and expect we'll see him in a lot with Bess and Ginn, with the FB or TE out.

Looks like merling lacks that mean streak.

The mad dog said on the radio yesterday that merling is this kind of teddy bear baby face and that they are trying to make a man out of him.

They haven't said anything about lankford so i guess he is ok in that department.

The DE's from Clemson...Merling and Gaines Adams have both been underachievers so far.
