I think the best player from our 09 draft will be Sean Smith. I think he will become an awesome FS eventually. He reminds me of Steve Atwater: size, speed, and great instinct.

good poll. i think smith too, but I think vonte will contribute right away as well. on offense I think White will either boom or bust this year--his skill will translate or they won't.

Uhh, if it's THAT easy, why not just put 11 RBs on the field at the same time! We also still have Cobbs. We can't use everyone at the same time, so unless the interior of our O-Line truly improves from last year I wouldn't expect much more from our running game.

I think Clemons will be the eventual FS and Smith will be the starting CB for years to come. No reason to move him from what the reports are about him. He has been more impressive than Davis who was chosen ahead of him.

He is a former WR so he has an advantage on the other DB's and he is smart too. The fact that he has limited experience at CB and is still turning heads is very encouraging.

I just hope Davis isn't another Jamar Fletcher or Jason Allen. I doubt it but he may take a year or two to develop.

Chris Clemons will be the steal of the draft for Miami.

He's smart. He knows his position inside and out. He might not have the 40 times or the verticle leap and all of that ........but he knows how to play when the pads are on. He won't make the mental mistakes.

The Odds are that vontae davis develops and starts ahead of everybody else.

They got him in the first round because he is supposed to be the best talent.

I don't know why eveybody is saying sean smith will be the starter. They just finished playing flag football without any hitting. Wait until they put on the pads then we wil see whos who.

I will go with the better odds and say dontae davis.

Odds don't mean much but if you want to look at it that way, the last time we got a Pro Bowl CB in the first round was Troy Vincent in 1992.

1998 Patrick Surtain...2nd round pick
1997 Sam Madison...2nd round pick

2006 Jason Allen...1st round pick
2001 Jamaar Fletcher...1st round pick

I'll take a corner who can cover over one that can hit anyday. Besides, at 6'4 215, you don't think Smith can hit?

They may have been playing flag football but what Smith showed was intelligence and the ability to pick up the scheme. That is usually what keeps a tiop CB from playing...the mental part of the game.

There are plenty of physical specimens who never see the field because they can't get the mental part down......Jason Allen for one.

By your rationale, all starters should be 1st round picks with second round backups.

Shawn Murphy should be starting and Donald Thomas should be warming the bench?

Yeremiah Bell should be a backup?

Paul Soliai should be ahead of Ferguson?

Quenton Moses ahead of Jason Taylor?

Jason Allen should be starting ahead of Will Allen?

Sorry. it doesn't work that way.

Eesti just because Jason Allen and Jamaar Fletcher who were first rounders didn't pan out like we thought they would does't mean
dontae davis is going to end up like them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No i didn't say that..............Any draft pick can become a great player. Its just a matter of luck.

What i said is id take my chances with vontae davis any day because he is a first rounder....And there was a reason he was picked in the first round.....or else they would had picked sean smith in the first round instead of vontae.

Granted there are no pads being worn. But Davis looked like burnt toast a lot and Smith looked great. That doesn't mean much, but going into camp it gives Smith the edge for playing time

I see Smith filling out that 6'4" frame a little more over the next 3-4 years, making him a less quick and agile CB, but an absolute monster FS.
I think he'll maintain most of his straight line speed, but lose a little quickness and agility to stay step-for-step with many of the leagues smaller/quicker receivers.

but then again, he is about the same size as the best CB in the NFL and with similar speed.

I have this feeling that Davis may be pretty darn good.

Nnamdi Asomugha, 6'2 1/2 210, 28 years old. 4.45 40

Played safety in college and many criticized Oakland for selecting him so high in the draft because he didn't have the skills to play CB (31st overall).

My point is, at 28, Nnamdi has "settled in" at 210 lbs.
I think Sean is still growing, and will outgrow the CB position, and become a beast at FS.
Deep, over the top coverage from a stud center fielder is what this team has been missing for a long time.

Taken from Wikipedia:

After redshirting as a freshman in the 1996 season, Allen proved to be an outstanding cornerback and kickoff returner, playing in 43 games with 28 starts, including 28 starts in 31 games played over his final three seasons. He is regarded as one of the fastest players to ever play for Syracuse, and recorded a 4.29 second time in the 40-yard dash.
