HAHAHA yeah pennington is just a breath of fresh air. He is just positive about everything he does. A leader...........He is even welcomed into the defensive huddle like you saw on the video.........

It was such a fitting end to the A-HOLE JETS season. JETS are such d*ckHead sellouts and such media mongers FAVRE became the perfect storm of oppertunity for them. HILARIOUS.

Yes, and if you can find a film of that play take a look. To me that very play marks the beginning of the Phins ascension as a serious NFL team. I believe it was in 1970, Shula's first year coaching the Phins.

Zonk was running down the sideline and out of the corner of his eye sees a defender (from the Bills I think) getting ready to tee off on him with a cheap shot. I'm not sure about this but I think Zonk was already engaged with another defender and the imminent victim saw an opportunity to light into Zonk while he was already fighting off the other tackler. But instead---with his free arm, Zonk smashed the guy in the face and knocked him down---rumor was the guy was knocked out. Good old smashmouth football.

As I remember this, and I might be wrong but I think I'm right as I have seen this several times in highlight films, It was against the Giants. Going down the sideline Zonk saw a defender coming and gave him a huge forearm in the helmet. I do think there was another defender at his hips. Put the guy on the ground out cold.
Flag goes up and Shula about lost it. Chew Zonk and then laughed his head off.
Zonk was the toughest football player I have ever watched. Loved contact more that life.

On another note.....

Yesterday i saw the biggest hit ive ever seen on that miami dolphins perfect season replay....on the NFL Network...Yesterday....


It was on larry sonka......He was running midfield and all of a sudden he sees a defender.....The defenser IMO was a LB.....Sonka tries to avoid the tackler and tries to do a 360.....But mid way....(((he was backward to the defender)))Midway he gets hit from the backside....They put it on slow motion......

It actually feel like sonka is going to break in half. I thought he broke his back.

I've never seen a hit like that ever.....

Sonka doing the commentary said.......Quote...There are times in the morning when i wakeup and i think of ....( said the players name ).....

Meaning....He has also goten a few lick on that defender........

Note that larry sonka is now living in alaska......O man The pain he must feel because of the cold and all those bruises...

No salary cap back then. A contract was a contract. There was and option year at the end of the contract. Meant that the player had the option of playing the option year out and then becoming a free agent. Most player/teams resigned the player or traded him. Much easier and much more loyalty from the players and teams.
I don't blame the players or their union for negotiating what they have now, but I really don't like it. Loyalty is a thing of the past.
That is why I much prefer the college game except for our Phins.

BTW. It's Csonka not Sonka. Better know as "The human bulldozer"

You're right JC. My memory is great but sometimes just a little short.

That big hit that Zonk took I know was against the Vikings during the undefeated season. About put Zonk in two pieces. Funny thing is that he was only out for a few plays and right back in the action. Mandich and Griese were the heros of that game with the winning TD catch in the endzone.

I can hardly wait for the season to start. Seems we now have a real team again. Gotta love our new coach and the way the players are all about work and winning.

Right, and guess who drew in coverage with the play fake on that winning play! Csonka. The Vikes were sure that Griese was going to go tried and true to the fullback who had something to prove at the end of the game after getting hurt earlier. Surprise! Young TE Mandich across the middle for the winning TD!

I've been trying to find the video for a while. If anybody finds it please post it on this thread if possible......I would really like to see how sonka, i mean csonka elbows the defender right into the ground.

I don't know how many here were around for that great season. It was the most exciting thing ever in Miami sports. I was only 25 years old and thought I knew everything. Well I will say that I did know that history was being made. I loved Marino and the excitement he brought, but nothing compares to that undefeated season, that great coach and those great players.

I can't find it either, but I think it was more of a forearm than an elbow. I never got tired of watching Zonk highlights.

The one thing about today's NFL that I really can't stand, is that the fullback position has been completely redefined as a blocker who catches a pass once in a while. What the heck is that about? Linemen are getting bigger every year--howcome no team is drafting a huge running back that can just run over defenders.

Why is the modern fullback all but forbidden from carrying the ball?
Granted that Polite is (finally) doing some good old fashioned short yardage conversions for us, but I'd like to see him used as a runner more often.

Yes JC the fullback position is all about blocking and catching short passes these days.


Everytime polite got the ball something good happened. It seemed like he could do no wrong. I hope he gets more carries. Yes even in the wildcat. Who knows what they'll do.
