At full strength not many teams can beat us. We may get another chance at this if we get rid of the expensive often injured and replace them with healthy playmakers.....Oline , at Corner and revamp special teams.

Our football starters and bench strength will depend on who is healthy and who stays on the team and not cut. Also, what players new to the team will actually perform for more than a few snaps. UGH.

Just to get under the cap, my understanding is we'll need to get rid of about $50M.

The most obvious cuts to my simple mind are the following to clear up $45M.
- Ogbah $13.7M
- Howard (post June 1 designation) $18.5M
- Baker 9.8M
- Crossen $3M

The GM boldly proclaimed they want a long-term deal w/Tua, and usually he's much more quiet if he's thinking of them being gone. So, whether any of us thinks it's a good idea or not, I bet it happens and dramatically reduces his current $23M.

Restructures/extensions available options.

I've heard conflicting things about what happens if Armstead does retire...but one was that it could save us $13M? That would be good...the bad part is that we'd have only 1 of 5 starting OL from 2023 signed for 2024.

Any time a team competes for a SB, they need a number of things to go right. For us some key ones:
- better injury/health luck
- Tua and McD to continue to improve in critical areas
- existing young/cheap players to step up (Smith & Tindall)
- impactful draft - especially at least 1 solid starter at OL
That's a lot to expect or even hope for...

Great post. The Pats seem to manage it well for 2 decades. Then Brady goes to Tampa and Whalla!?

Maybe Tom needs to become a consultant? Just keep him away from any cheerleaders or hawt Cuban hot dog vendors.......

I get it. But someone knew about the salary cap, how to put a winning team together for 2 decades. Then again in a new city. I don't think it was Gronkowski. Not sure he could count without removing his socks.....
Now that Tom isn't playing us twice a year I have developed a bit of respect for him.

But if he's a capologist I'd entertain the possibility of hiring him for that role only if :

* he can prove he was the capologist for NE and Tampa during their championship seasons.
* he is forbidden to ever meet with or be seen with any of our players. He meets with players' agents and lawyers only.
* he may not attend our games.
* he is relegated to an isolated window-less office away from everyone else (I'm talkin' Stephen Root in Office Space with his red stapler).

NE had a pretty simple formula, when somebody wanted to get paid, they were traded, in many cases for a 1st round pick and then some. Ty Law, Randy Moss, Lawyer Malloy, it didn't matter, they were gone.
When Xavien Howard had his 10 Int season, we should have traded him to a team that thought they were just an elite corner away. Somebody would have traded for a couple of first round picks. That's what NE would have done. Instead Miami PAYS those stupid prices.
Look what we paid for Tyreek and we can't win a play-off game. KC traded Tyreek for a boatload of draft picks, unloaded the salary and has been to the Superbowl every year without him.

In a way, he was their capologist...or at least a cheat code. He took well under market value for years so they could have a financial competitive advantage in assembling & maintaining the rest of their roster.

Excellent assessment. I'm not saying get rid of every player wanting to get paid. Vince Wilfork got paid 60 million . Times and salaries have changed. If they are rock steady and start every game like Wilkins you pay them. But 1/2 our rooster was getting paid and not playing. There is a formula to it. Pretty sure it starts with the trenches.
